Chad Moeller purchased...

Post#1 » by 34Celtic » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:08 pm

from SWB. Jeter to start tonight. Posada still not ready to catch.

Please tell me Betemit was DFA's and Alberto is still on the team.

Fear not. Betemit is on the 15 day DL with pink eye. Alberto is starting at 2nd base tonight with Cano on the bench. Also Sanchez was moved to the 60 day DL to make room for Moeller on the 40. -Jitpal

Are you serious? Pink Eye? Mark this down. Gonzalez will be a better major league player than Betemit.

Also Joba is on the bereavement list which means he can't be back for 3 days. Albaladejo was also called up so the bullpen shouldn't take as a big of a hit. Albaladejo should be good for a couple innings if Kennedy can't do it tonight. -Jitpal

Absolutely serious. It's on Pete's blog. Gonzalez is already a better major league player. No argument on the defense. He can lay down a good bunt, grind at the plate, clutch hits, and situational hitting. Basically the only thing Betemit has over him is power and the switch hitting label. If Gonzalez was a little faster, I think he would be a much higher ranked prospect. -Jitpal

Give me somebody who is better at baseball any day.

Look, I kinda agree with you on Betemit not filling a role on the team at this point, but your hate-on for him is getting ridiculous.

I like Alberto Gonzalez reminds me of an Orlando Cabrera (great D, average-above average hitting)

He's not a good hitter.

He's reminding me of the heir apparent to Jeter TBH. Certain guys have the Yankee poise, and it looks from the get-go that he has it. His stick was reportedly not very good, but he's hitting the ball really well right now, and he could be a gold glover with the mit. Hopefully, he keeps it up because his future is very bright.

He is no heir apparent to Jeter. He never hit well consistently in the minors. He has no power.

He's a utility infielder and nothing more.

I've seen a lot of players tear up the minors and suck. I've seen a lot of players fizzle in the minors but surge in the majors. The minors often serve as a good projection tool, but they aren't absolute.

I'm saying certain players have the look and feel, Alberto reminds me of a lot of the same things I saw with Cano when he first came up. He's hitting .333 right now, and he's already made more than a few plays with his glove.

He's certainly impressing right now.

While Gonzalez isn't the future at SS and there isn't much of a comparison with Cano who is only a year older than Alberto, he has hit well in the minors he has just struggled at AAA. While he may not be a power hitter he is SS not a RF. Betimit has tons of power and can't make contact.

The big issue to me and it was the same coming into the year I don't want Betimit playing in the middle of the diamond. The question really isn't whether Gonzalez is a better bat because it is a defensive position, on top of that Ensberg is a better bat and likely better defenisvely even at first.

I would rather have Duncan swinging from his heels than Betimit looking scared at the plate.

I think we're all in agreement that Betemit does not deserve a roster spot.

I agree that he needs to be traded but I would not DFA him. He should have value to some teams. Maybe San Francisco, they could use some pop. -Jitpal

Betemit would be one of their best hitters, really.

They have Bengie Molina at cleanup, for God's sake.
