ok....got my first look at Alderson. He doesn't seem to have dominating stuff, but the results were pretty good. Six innings and one run, with 4 k's. A few of the outs were hard hit balls. He was throwing high 80's, low 90's with good command.
The one thing he'll have problems is his time to home plate. For the most part, he used a high leg kick out of the stretch. Occasionally, he'd mix in a slide step, but lost a few MPH when he did that. Pill didn't play. Again, D'Alessio was DH'ing. They put a C at 1B. None of the position players stood out at all. The best guy on the field seemed to be SS Sharlon Schoop,
The Ports had some pretty impressive guys. Trevor Cahill was pretty dominant on the mound. He just turned 20, so he's a little older than Alderson. But, he was bringing it at 94-95 and only allowed one legit hit in 6 innings. Chris Carter at 1B looked pretty good with the bat and seemed to have nice size.

He's on the lean side, so getting bigger wouldn't be a problem. He's definitely not a Cain-esque build. Probably closer to Mike LaCoss.
Long and gangly.
He has kind of an awkward, herky-jerky delivery where Cain has your classic, compact delivery. I wish I would have seen Cain at San Jose to compare, but never did.
I recall seeing Shawn Estes in San Jose back when the Giants first traded for him and everything about him screamed major leaguer (too bad he had a 10 cent head). I just didn't get that same feeling with Alderson. But, he's so darned young for high A and the results have been good so far. So, you can't really complain.
