Why is Brooks Conrad not playing instead of Craig Biggio. I get the 3000 hit thing, but Conrad is legit. It should be more important for a franchise to win games than for it to get one of its players a career milestone. Biggio will get his 3000 hits in about 240 atbats. Conrad should get every single other AB. Or at least put Burke at second and bring Pence up to man CF. Biggio is truly useless right now.

And Hunter Pence is better than Carlos Lee.

agree with everything except that, I would put Pence in instead of Scott, but thats not going to happen, unless he starts sucking, but what I don't understand is that Pence is 24, and needs to be in a Astro uniform by now.

This must be the most useless stickied thread in the history of RealGM on any sports forum. We have absolutely nobody down in the minors to cheer for or that excite the imagination of what they could be. Sad...

At least we had Hunter Pence to root for early last year, but ever since he was called up, this thread is just not interesting. I'll leave it alone though, maybe somebody will fall onto our radar or they will send somebody currently on the team down.

When the Astros wheeled across the finish line in 2008, team officials said they had two reasons to be optimistic. The big league club improved by 13½ games over the year before, and the June draft launched what Houston hopes is the rebirth of a depleted farm system.

If that sounds as if it's grasping at straws, well, it is. The Astros have traveled a bumpy and unsettling road since their 2005 World Series loss to the White Sox, so they'll take anything they can get in order to combat the painful reality that they have fallen from power in the National League Central.

While the Astros finished 86-76 and leapfrogged the Cardinals for a third-place finish, they had to hoof it to get there. Talk of wild-card contention briefly bubbled up in August but quickly faded despite a 42-24 second half. Nevertheless, it provided first-year general manager Ed Wade with some comfort after attempting to clean up the mess he inherited.
