Oakland needs a bat - AAA talent and some bigs avail
Ok, if you've watched any Oakland games, you might be asking yourself: When did Oakland start recruiting from college softball?
Well we didn't - we're a pathetic hitting team. I mean bad. So knowing this, here is a short list of players the A's defenitely want to hang on to:
Nick Swisher
Daric Barton
Travis Buck
Milton Bradley
Huston Streen
Dan Haren
Now that that's been said, we need a legit major league hitter. Any position would be fine, as our keepers (Swish, Buck, Bradley) are all very versatile and can play multiple positions. Anyone have any offers for the rest of the A's?
Some of our AAA talent includes:
Jason Windsor
Santiago Casilla
Dan Meyer
Dallas Braden
Kurt Suzuki
Landon Powell
Danny Putnam

So Oakland wants to keep onto all of their good players and we can have the crappy ones.
Oakland has the best offense in the AL West, so I don't know what you're even complaining about. They play in big parks (Oakland, LA, and Seattle are all pitchers parks) and they have to face the best pitching staff in baseball, in LA.
Shannon Stewart is terrible, though. Definitely get rid of him.

Harden, Blanton, all of our middle relievers, Eric Chavez, Mark Kotsay, Mark Ellis? Yeah, they're all terrible...
Oakland has the WORST offense in the AL West, are you kidding me? Texas has a stacked lineup, Anaheim does as well, and even the Mariners with a slumping Ichiro are hitting better than us. We're hitting .224 as a team. 4 regulars below .200, one at .216.
Geoff Jenkins would certainly be a good option, we'd just have to hope that Geoff and Milton would get injured at different times during the season.

You want Jason Giambi back? NY can pay a good portion of his salary.

Depends what ya'll want.... the only untouchable player in my mind would be Daric Barton.
We have
SP: Dallas Braden, Ben Fritz
RP: Santiago Casilla
positional players arent great right now... nothing really jumps out, but a bunch of solid 'overachievers' is what they're being called up in Sacramento...

The Reds management is awful---will likely deal Dunn for some cash and a few decent minor leaguers.
Aside from that, for the A's,I'd be looking for a good contact hitter, batting Avg,on base %,and I'd get back to stealing some bases.
The A's have a young team, and even though this is an off year for the farm system--there's still more there than most teams have. I think the A's should not over-react. Money limits always keep the A's from assembling a dynasty-instead-like half the teams in MLB...they get windows of opportunity to win it all before the rich few steal all their top talent. Now-they are in reload mode-so probably are a year away from a run for the top.

The Brewers would probably trade Jenkins for a shut down reliever. I'm not sure what the A's have to offer. We could offer up Mench too. How about... a hot dog and a playboy for Mench?

Matt stairs is producing big time, as his dirt cheap contract is right in line with the style of Beane ball. Vdub would probably be too expensive, same as the big hurt, though for the right package they'd be available. Or troy glaus. But again, prolly too much money.
Alex rios could be delt, but not for any were near cheap.
Glaus is hitting .390 obp .524 slg .280 avg with 11 homers 35 rbi 31bb to 44ks. And has been very solid on D since we got him. IIRC he makes 10mill a year and has a limited no trade clause. Though I don't think Oakland is on his No trade list. For him, wells, or rios we'd need haren harden or blanton for sure. For rios, who has an inexpensive contract and is still getting better and better, we'd need as much as two of them. Or MAYBE one of them, a top pitching prospect, a reliever and take away big hurts bad deal. (That won't happen though)
I am not sure what stairs would take to acquire, but I think a deal could be reached there.
Mat stairs is hitting .356 OBP .550 SLG .292 AVG with 8 doubles 12 homers 29 rbi in 171 at bats.
Adam lind has shown some nice pop this year, and the ability to hit for average, and line drive for double previously. He's also cheap with a controlled contract for several years.
Maybe a package with lind, Stairs, and a pitcher (towers, josh banks, david purcy, or ricky romero depending) for a good young major league starter.
