I think his delivery gets hitters out. He doesnt even look at the plate when he pitches.

Papelbon was stroking 100 MPH according to NESN and MLB Gameday. Jesus Christ.
He's faced 41 batters this season. 18 have struck out, which is 43.9%. It's just gotten to videogame levels with this guy. Last year he was just completely insane, striking out 84 of the 224 batters he faced (37.5%), but he's even surpassing it so far this year. And I think that figure last year was pretty close to the major league record. Pedro Martinez struck out 37.5% of batters in 1999, which I imagine is either the record or extremely close.
I don't really get Okajima. How he's so effective or how he even manages to find home plate is a mystery to me. Obviously he has tremendous command, but it's still just an 87 MPH fastball. Similarly I could never get Foulke. He had two pitches. Why no one could guess fastball and consistently crush him was beyond me.

UGH. Youk has a stiff back and Varitek isn't feeling well enough to play either.
So backups include Coco Crisp, a sick Varitek and Youkilis with a stiff back.
