Yeah, I think it should be very comforting to people who thought he threw 95-94 with regularity. People were worried that his stuff had diminished, but obviously it hasn't...so that should take away a lot of the concern from people. He's pretty much been 91-93 this season according to Gameday, which is the most accurate. YES is a terrible gun and is never trustworthy. Hughes' velocity is fine because it has such great movement and late life, so sometimes it looks like 94 or 95 to hitters. Now the next step is getting that pinpoint command back, he lost a lot of his mechanics after the injuries last year because he was wearing a brace and clearly favoring his leg. Slowly he has gotten the mechanics back this season but it takes a lot of repitition to be back where he wants to be. He'll get there...patience everybody...
I am curious, I know in his prime maddux threw about 90-91 max, but he was dominant, but there has not been many pitchers who were dominant without a fastball in the mid 90's? am I correct? I just can't think of many. do you think Hughes can be a dominant ace with a 91-93mph fastball? I know he is touted as having great command and 3 other pitches, but do you think a 93 mph fastball is enough? Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this...
