4 straight Complete Games for Halliday... 3 Losses

Wow is the Jays lineup ever stuggling. Roy has tossed 4 CGs in a row, but has now lost 3 striaght... tonight a 1 - 0 loss to Boston coming in the bottom of the 9th.

The Jays have been getting oads of runners on base, but have been horrible with RISP and just cant keep out of the double play.

I was at the Rays game that Halladay lost.

One bad inning cost him.

He was flawless and mostly unhittable the other 8 innings.

Jays need some serious run production. Their lineup looks anemic at times.

Damn, getting blanked by Jon Lester is really embarrassing. That's some crazy stuff Roy Halladay is pulling. He's on pace for 265 innings if he makes 32 starts.

I just don't get the Blue Jays. When you look at that roster it screams offense at you. I doubt Frank Thomas makes this much of a difference. But they better get their act together because the rest of the division is leaving them behind. I mean, literally, the entire division.

It screams offense? Where? What? They have a couple above average offensive players in Hill and Rios and a bunch of terrible to mediocre offensive players.

Rolen is finished, Eckstein is putrid, Overybay is one of the worst offensive 1B, Zaun is decent, Wells is average in CF and maybe a lot worse, Matt Stairs is a below-average DH, Adam Lind looks like he might be an average LF if things break right.

The team screams great pitching and defense to me.

Throwing him out there in the 9th was idiotic. Halladay is a workhorse, but he was leaving pitches up and out of the zone in the 8th...he was labouring pretty badly, and with a good bullpen, there was no need to push him just for the CG. Expect Halladay to end up on the DL in late-June, when his arm falls off as usual. God, Gibby is as bright as toothpaste.

Also, that was one hell of a stab by Pedroia in the top of the 9th; Wells smoked a liner that came within inches of decapitating Papelbon, and Pedroia somehow laid out to snag it on the short-hop, got up and gunned him out.

I guess Pedroia felt his shoulder pop out of the socket a bit after that play. This isn't the first time I've heard that from him and Will Carroll seems to think that the subluxation may be a result of some hyperflexability. As long as he keeps his muscles strong it shouldn't be a problem but the way that kid throws himself around on the diamond, I worry a little bit about the future. mahalo

No kidding. That was one of the better fast-reflex plays that I've seen from a second baseman since Alomar was in his prime...between the tail on the ball, the fact that it was going up the middle, the slight deflection off Papelbon's glove and the sheer velocity of the ball, there's really no way that he should have made that play.

Reds offense is just as bad in giving run support. Harang is 1-4 with a 2.98 ERA. What a joke. I feel bad for our pitchers because our offense is so atrocious.

Prediction: Toronto stretches the lead to five or six, Gibbons lets Halladay throw a 120 pitch complete game with a rested bullpen and the game out of reach, and Halladay goes on the DL with tenderness in his right forearm by Wednesday.

Yes, and he's the only one getting run support. To everybody else, our offense is horrible. Volquez has half the of the starting rotation's wins.

On the flip side, Girardi pulled Darrell Rasner today when he was pitching competently at a count around 75... after also pulling Mussina early yesterday. The Yankees finally rid themselves of Torre and bam, his replacement is acting just like him.

Let's have Girardi and Gibbons breed and create a couple effective bullpen managers. Don't tell me it's scientifically impossible, damn you.

Bullpen innings pitched:

Toronto - 81 (average of 2.5 IP/game)
New York - 118 (average of 3.6 IP/game)

Our bullpen should be plenty fresh for July, when they'll be relied upon to go 4-5 innings a night after two of our starters go down with stress injuries, and are replaced in the rotation by unproven AAA guys.

Average AL CF last year: .272/.340/.414
Vernon Wells last year: .245/.304/.402
Average AL CF this year: .275/.341/.411
Vernon Wells this year: .271/.341/.407

He is almost exactly average this year and was horrible last year.

That was Wells' worst season in the bigs, and he was playing through injury for much of the year. Ditto Overbay, who broke his hand and never returned to form...in three previous seasons he posted OPS+ of 125, 112, and 122.

As for Eckstein, no disagreement, and the offense as a whole projects to be in the neighbourhood of 96-98 OPS+. Not good, but not at the bottom of the league either.
