PITCHING MATCHUP
Jeremy Sowers, LHP (0-0, 2.08 )
Sowers showed drastic improvement with his control between his first start April 5 against the White Sox and his second one on Thursday against the Angels. After walking a career-high five batters against the Sox, he didn't walk any against the Angels, though he did throw one wild pitch. In seven innings against Los Angeles, all he allowed was a run on six hits with three strikeouts. But his efforts weren't good for anything more than a no-decision. Sowers allowed just two runs in seven innings against the Yankees in his second career big-league start last summer.
vs
Kei Igawa, LHP (0-0, 7.84)
Igawa makes his third Major League start and second Yankee Stadium appearance. The left-hander was sharp in the first five innings of his effort on Friday at Oakland -- limiting the A's to an unearned run -- but he seemed to tire as he neared the 90-pitch mark. Still, Igawa left in position for his first victory before the bullpen coughed up a one-run lead.
