Why not bring up Samb?

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Jan 2, 2008 4:28 am

So we've been blowing out a lot of teams lately, and it seems like it would be a great time to get Samb some experience.

He definately would have gotten a lot of garbage time the past few weeks.

Personally as a fan, I'd be way more excited to see Samb out there in garbage time than Brezec.

Thoughts?

Samb's still recovering from mouth/jaw surgery from when he got teeth knocked out. He just got back to practices a couple days ago. Let him heal up. A month with a lot of road trips probably isn't the right time for him to see much burn.

Besides, Brezec's doing just fine in the role of Human Victory Cigar.

When the hell do you play him? Our 12th man scored 8 points in 5minutes last night.

This is team bordering on stupid with its depth, adding more could make it even harder to fine minutes for those who deserve them.

I want more minutes for connie hawkins(GIANT HAND MAN) anyway, so this is a no go in my book.

Walter Hermann>Cheikh Samb. I would find him minutes before worrying about our favorite Senegalese player. One *might* be a backup C of the future, but the other has already proven to be an excellent 7th man at some point in his career.
C: Wallace/McDyess/Brezec/Samb*
PF: McDyess/Maxiell/Johnson/Hermann
SF: Prince/Hayes/Hermann/Johnson
SG: Hamilton/Afflalo/Hayes/Murray*
PG: Billups/Stuckey/Hunter*/Murray*

Basically if you read the OP I talked about wanting to see Samb in garbage time rather than Brezec.

Brezec just doesn't do it for me.

I'm not sure how Hermann relates to this at all... He and Samb don't play the same position.

Whoda thunk that "the youth" would be getting in the way of the "other youth"

I agree. I don't see the point in Brezec. He can do his cheerleading in a suit. I want to see a return of the Thin Towers (Amir/Samb).

And I'm not sure how all of this got related to Fabio. He would still play. Just swap Brezec for Samb. Simple.

Should we ever find ourselves in a situation where we'd need to rely upon one of either Brezec or Samb in a playoff game who would you feel more comfortable with? Brezec who at least has a few years NBA experience or the very green Cheik Samb?

Hopefully it would never come to that, but imagine Sheed is ejected/suspended and Dice/Maxiell are in foul trouble. You may need somebody to come in and ot be a complete liability for say, 5-8 minutes. I'd feel a bit more comfortable with Brezec. That to me is reason enough to keep him active and involved.

Unless Samb shows he can flat out beat out Brezec for minutes I'd rather roll w/ the vet.

Yeah I thought about this when Max only got 14 minutes in the blowout against the Bucks.

You know you've made it when you no longer need to get experience in blowouts...

And honestly I really don't think it would ever come to needing Brezec or Samb, but I think Samb is in our future as a backup C. Next year he could be in our 12 man unit as the 5th big off the bench.

I would probably trade Brezec for a 2nd round pick without hesitating.

I'd rather see Brezec for the same reasons Cow specified. Veterans>NBDL projects. Getting any minutes to acclimate oneself to a new team>riding the inactive list and being thrown to the wolves in a case of emergency.
Brezec just doesn't do it for me.
Why? He does it for Joe. We need ONE center active.

Obviously. But if we want somebody that can contribute NOW, it's Hermann. If we're seriously grooming Cheikh Samb to be our future center, I worry. It was merely the principle of it. I'd rather give garbage minutes to Hermann than Samb. and McDyess would have to play a lot of C to make that happen. So I listed a depth chart. Simple.

Cheick returned to Detroit recently as he was seeking medical attention for a fractured his jaw and was missing two front teeth. I read recently that Detroit was going to send him back down to the Mad Ants in the next few days. He is still raw at the moment, though i think if he can learn a few things like Amir did last season down in that league he could show some promise in the next year or so.

I think Samb is crap. Primoz would make Cheikh call him Daddy out on the court.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.
