Rockets/Pistons

Post#1 » by sackings916 » Wed Jan 2, 2008 9:24 am

EDIT-Added Stuckey in the deal.

Pistons trade-
Rip Hamilton
Rodney Stuckey
Antonio McDyess

Pistons recieve-
Tracy McGrady

Rockets trade-
Tracy McGrady

Rockets recieve-
Rip
Stuckey
McDyess

Pistons lineup-
Billups/Hunter
McGrady/Murray/Afflafo
Prince/Hayes
Maxiell/Johnson/Hermann
Wallace/Brezec/Samb

Why for DET-They make this trade to compete with the Celtics and win now. Wallace,Billups and Tmac are all towards the end of their primes but those 3 with Prince and Maxiell can play with Boston.

Rockets lineup-
Alston/James/Brooks
Hamilton/Stuckey/Head
Battier/Wells/Snyder
McDyess/Scola/Hayes
Yao/Mutombo

Why for HOU- With Tmac gone Yao is the focal point of the offense which looks like the best option for the Rockets. Rip is a perfect fit for Adelman's offense, and McDyess seems like a good fit with Yao.They still need to upgrade their PG position to be an elite team IMO..is Scola+Battier+Alston+1st enough to get Bibby from the Kings?

Bibby/Brooks/James
Hamilton/Stuckey/Head
Wells/Snyder
McDyess/Hayes
Yao/Mutombo

Mcdyess is the Pistons best rebounder. A Max+Sheed front court will get killed on the defensive glass.

Adding stuckey is even worse for the Pistons.

Pistons shoot this down ASAP.

This has zero chance of happening. Stuckey looks like the real deal.

Yup.Scola is not good enough to be a starter in this league, and Battier is pretty average at everything. If anything Kings decline the trade.

I had 2nd thoughts of Houston would do it w/o him. Tmac is a notch or 2 better than Rip, I dont think McDyess and a late 1st makes up the difference. Take out the 1st and add Stuckey, or add in Stuckey and Hunter with the 1st rounder taken out and add in Mike James from the Rockets side. James gives the Pistons a 3 pt shooter and scoring off the bench.

First off, Why do you want Hunter? You think he is worth a first rounder? Thats laughable.

Rip+Mcdyess+stuckey+first rounder > Tmac+James

Even if they are close to equal, Pistons would never do this trade becuase they are giveing up their future as well. I didnt even mention the chemistry issues they would have after this trade, getting killed on the boards with getting a big man that rebounds in return, and going from a deep bench to a crappy one in the blink of an eye.

If this is what it takes to get Mcgrady to the Pistons, I would rather take my chances on Rip+tay+ 2 first rounders for Kobe. He is a superior player and more durable than tmac.

You have to give to get, and when healthy Tmac is one of the best players in the league. Rip is a good player, but not near Tmac's level. McDyess is a solid starter at best, but he's getting up there in age. Giving up those 2 with Stuckey is fair for Tracy McGrady IMO.

Wait, what? Hunter was needed to make the deal work financially. I dont know what you mean by he is worth a 1st rounder. BTW, im a Kings fan not Rocket fan.

I took the 1st out in the original deal. As for which is better, I'd take the trio of Tmac/Billups/Sheed. Right now I cant see the Pistons beating the Cletics in a 7 gm series. You make this trade Pistons possibly are favorites.

I see your point here. They do mortgage their future, but this trade makes them a lot better NOW and gives them a good chance as any to win a ring. Yes losing McDyess hurts them on the boards, but you get Tmac. Maxiell and Amir Johnson are more than serviceable as your power forwards. I dont know about them "going from a deep bench to a crappy one in a blink of an eye" is accurate though. How do you go from a deep bench to a crappy 1 when you only lost 1 bench player to begin with? You lose Stuckey which hurts your future, but you gain Mike James as your backup PG.Who is their backup PG right now? Chemistry wont be that big of an issue.Dont forget how much you gain with McGrady on your team also.

Someone is overvaluing TMac, who's gimpy, only made it out of the 1st round in his own mind, and "quietly" doesn't want to be there. Look at what it took Houston to get TMac in his prime, and realize that TMac's no longer in his prime.

TMac is potentially worth a somewhat-lesser star (e.g. Rip in this case) + a pick and|or contract relief that could be a playoff boost (the latter of which the Pistons happen to have plenty of at the moment). TMac's not gonna get you a whole lot more than that, AFAICT.

Were I a Planet Houston fan, I'd be looking more at the "finding a 3rd star" approach. It's clear that the "2 stars + a solid core" approach you took (e.g. Rudy for Battier + Stro relief) hasn't worked really worked out as well as you'd hoped, even when Battier played better.

McDyess is a good ball player; he is solid coming off the bench or starting. He is a perennial sixth man of the year candidate and is probably the reason the Pistons offense is so efficient this year with him starting. Yes

You changed the deal so many times, I had a hard time following it.
I guess Hunter and a first rounder for Mike James would have been fair.

Right now, I dont think the Celtics can beat the Pistons in a 7 game series. After this trade, they may or may not.

Yes... Maxiell is the reason the Pistons bench is so damn good right now. The whole team feeds off his energy. However, with him starting, who is going to rebound? For this reason, Amir will be asked to play big minutes, and he is not ready yet. Not having a sure thing to back up Sheed or Max will make the pistons bench seem much weaker. I am willing to trade Mcdyess or Max, if we get an established rebounder back.

Lakers wont do it.

and the Pistons dont do this deal.

Nope, Pistons pass.

In case beau wasn't clear, the Rip+Dyess+Stuckey kills our bench because Maxiell is our 6th man (and would now start w/ McDyess gone) and Stuckey is already our 7th man, backing up both guard spots. We go from two very nice young players bringing energy off the bench to having Jarvis Hayes and Mike James (in your second deal) as the 6th and 7th guys.

No friggin' thanks to that for the Rip to T-Mac upgrade.

Detroit is not going to consider that offer. I think if TMac was made available that Joe Dumars might be interested, however I think our offer would look more like Richard Hamilton and Amir Johnson, along with expiring Brezec and Murray.
