i can see this if it's a salary shedding deal and the wolves, but i don't like lee because that would put AJ permanently at center if he's ever going to start.

Really don't see the point for NY.
Craig Smith is a downgrade from David Lee (the best player in this deal).
But besides that unless they move Zach Randolph as well at some point, the only reason they'd move Lee is to get a player that plays a different position that would be an upgrade over what they have (i.e. Ron Artest). That doesn't get accomplished here.
If they want Gerald Green (who Isiah Thomas may be interested in) then they can sign him in the offseason since the Wolves already declined his option.
Telfair is hardly an upgrade at the point over what they have. Contract aside, Marbury is still the better PG over his similarly unstable cousin.
And I'd rather have Jerome James contract than Marko Jaric's contract (Jaric's contract is bigger) since neither guy would/should be playing much at all in NY.
I'd rather take my chances on Renaldo Balkman than Ryan Gomes at SF.

Craig Smith is not better.

Both are useless on bottom of the barrel teams. Jaric has 4 years and $27+ million while James only 3 years and $18 million. Jaric is NOT > James no matter how you try to rationalize it.
green> balkman
And that's because Green has shown what? Are we on the hype still or is 36% from the field and being non-tendered a sign of a good player?

Yeah god forbid we block a 25 year old that's averaging 2.3 PPG and 1.3 RPG.

Jaric's production is worth at least 2/3rd of his contract, and its hard to find a team he would have no use on .. even the Knicks. James is worth nothing, and in my opinion, should be bought out. Jaric might cost a team $9 mil over 4 years, while James would cost a team $18 mil.
Also, even if the Knicks couldn't use a pass-first guy on their team, is there some moritorium out there I haven't heard about that prevents the Knicks from ever trading him elsewhere? Does anyone believe Jaric, with his production this year, has less trade value than Jerome James?

The Knicks barely have time to play the young players they do have that they should be playing. Why would they feel that they need to play Jaric who doens't factor into the present or future for this team NOR can do anything to help this team now.
Jaric being a more productive player than Jerome James isn't being questioned. The Knicks having no real reason to play Jaric is the point. And if they have no reason for Jaric it comes purely down to the contracts which is what it is no matter how you try to spin Jaric's marginal worth vs. Jerome James non-worth, Jerome James 3 years $18 million is worth more than Jarics 4 years $27 million by 1 year and $9 million.

His production this year? He's on the absolute worst team in the NBA (even worse than the Knicks). You give Jerome James 27 minutes per game and he'd put up stats as well. But the point again is the Knicks, who already have a full roster, have no room for him, and therefore has no use for him. And no, I don't believe there's any team that would trade for him or he'd be gone already. Why? Cause he serves no real purpose for the Wolves anymore than he would for NY and the same reason the Wolves would move him in a second for a smaller contract (but apparently cannot) is why the Knicks would have the same problem.
Jaric's value for a team like NY would be in his last season, but by then Jerome James current contract will have already expired.
