The Sixers are NOT trading Miller

Post#1 » by IggyTheBEaST » Wed Jan 2, 2008 10:43 pm

"We're happy with our team and will see what happens in the summer, but I am not shopping Andre Miller around the league."

"We like the players we have on our team now, and Andre Miller is an integral part of our team, the glue of the team, who happens to make other players better," Stefanski said.

Miller, who will be 32 in March and is signed through 2008-09, will become even more valuable to keep. And since his game is not predicated on speed or quickness, there should be no reason he cannot remain at a high level for four or five years.

"For us to take that next step to that next level, Andre Miller would be a nice player to have on the team," Stefanski said.

Well his contract will be a lot more appealing a year from now.

 Yeah that is kinda ironic.

But more importantly, no more Miller to the Knicks for their young players and their 2008 1st round pick!!!

In all seriousness, this just seems like posturing to raise Miller's value. It would be silly to trade Korver for capspace and not follow through with Miller IMO. As of now, I don't think they have enough money to re-sign Iggy and add a max FA.

achewaly The sixers are not posturing here. Stefanski will have to be blown away to make a deal. Here's what Ed's probably trying to do.

1. Use that pick from the jazzg to be packaged with green and evans so someone gives up a expring for them.
2. That will give us enough room to sign a max free agent in the offseason. So we extend iggy and for arguements sake, say we sign brand.
3. Then next season, when we've added a couple of pieces, I expect stefanski to deal miller. That's when Lou will be able to take over, and when we could get good value for him, both as a good player and cap relief.

Not if the Sixers don't have a low post player. Giricek actually fits in better then Korver does.

Uhh. Giricek isn't someone that's going to be in Philly's longterm plans. And he really doesn't fit better than Korver, who was a better player.

wrong. last time I checked. Resigning a big name free agent. Your allowed to keep your own players regardless of cap.

Until you work out a deal with iggy, he counts as a max contract against your cap this offseason. So that means you will have about 9 mill in cap space to work with, which is not enough to get a max level FA. That also assumes you dont use your pick, which will take you down to abou 7.5 mill in cap space.....which is enough to get a guy like Kapono, but not Arenas or Brand.
