I am a Blazer fan, but at this juncture it is insane to believe Oden will be better than Howard. Oden is an unknown, Howard has proven he is the best C since Shaq.
In 2-3 years, they will be 1a & 1b. Both will be heads and shoulders above every other Center in the NBA. It will be much like Hakeem going against Robinson back in the early to mid 90's. Its going to be amazing to watch these brutes battle, hopefully in the finals a few times.

Howard is on his way to the hall of fame, but he still is no Kareem, Shaq, Russell, Chamberlin, Moses Malone or even Robinson. They were great throughout their entire careers, and they dominated their position through their eras also.
Howard has all the tools to be great, but he still has a long way to go in terms of putting his entire game and his natural gifts together. He is still extremely raw on both the offensive and defensive end. But with that being said, i agree that he is one of the best players in the league, when you factor in age, natural physical abilities, game progression and improvement from year to year, and the lack of centers in the league today. He is a top 5 player already.

I don't see anything wrong in saying Dwight can develop into the best center the league has ever seen... People say it about LeBron becoming better than Jordan all the time and they are right, there is a chance. I know that I can say pretty confidently that I'm sure Howard will average 30 and 15 in only a few years... Which would begin to seriously launch him into that conversation.

Russell, Chamberlain, Hakeem, Shaq and David Robinson beg to differ.[/quote]
Kareem belongs before Hakeem, mr Rob and maybe Shaq.
edit, just checked his stats. put kareem in and toss out hakeem, Rob, and shaq. there is no top 5 only a top 3. To be fair, Jabbar gets forgotten on these lists all the time.. i think Sam Smith said it was b/c he's a ninny.

Indeed, at his current rate of development, he has a legitimate shot at being the absolute best center in history.
The other day I watched a replay of an Illinois/LSU game on BigTen Network in which Shaq was playing. I got news for you, Howard is so much stronger and faster than Shaq was at a young age that its just downright frightening.
Greg Oden is slower, weaker, and less explosive than Howard and always will be. He's most likely going to be an elite big man and a super player, but the world still just hasn't quite figured out just how insanely dominant and frightening Dwight Howard is yet.
Players are referred to as "unstoppable" an awful lot, but its rarely true. Dwight Howard really is unstoppable and he's nowhere near his ceiling as a player.
Chill..... LBJ already took his team to the championship... what has D.Howard done? top five centers of all time??

Are you serious? He isn't crazy D. Howard doesn't have the marketing like LBJ has. Only reason why his name isn't mention. Howard has very limited post moves probably less than Tyrus Thomas, but his strength/athetlicism /hustling allows him to dominate the game as it is.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.
NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

When comparing young talented bigs, Andrew Bynum for some reson is always the forgotten man, can't really figure out why?
He still might have some defensive flaws in his game, but he has the right size and look at his stats: great numbers in pts, reb, blck, fg%, freeththrow% and he's further already a good passer and he's still 2 years younger than Howard.

Check out the Lakers board, they think Bynum is the second coming of Jesus himself.
Bynum is not in the same league as Howard or Oden-- not even freaking close.

LOL at David Robinson vs. Dwight Howard.
He has Robinson's athleticism (and then some), coupled with Shaq's strength and the speed of a small forward.
Robinson was every bit the athlete Howard is, far more skilled and 2-3 inches taller. And Robinson wasn't exactly a weakling. But still Robinson isn't in the top 5 centers of all-time.

At every stage in their development so far, Oden always had the bigger, stronger body. Howard is quicker and a bit more explosive though.
Its just a shame Oden didn't get his wrist taken care of when it happened, then he would have been able to play a healthy year in college basketball. As it is, he played pretty well for wearing a wrist guard all year.
Howard has certainly exceeded expectations. But at the same age, Oden was always thought of as the better prospect. Dwight's got two years on Oden, and two years more NBA experience now that Oden's suffered this injury.

Kudos for the Magic for taking a chance on the high school kid over Okafur after all the high school disapointments of the previous years. That being said, I sure wish the Bulls had that option too, because I think Pax would have gotten it right as well. Don't get me wrong, I like Deng and Gordon but man, we always have the lower pick when one of these franchise guys are there.
