Any updates on this guy? I remember he was playing well for us until he injured his ankle in practice last season. Has he recovered yet? If so, why hasn't he been playing?

I'm guessing he isn't 100% healthy yet

I don't think any of us really know.. it's been a while since the last Shav update, unless I missed one

I'd be surprised if Shav is still in the league by this time next year

I find it ironic that a guy named ankle420breaker would make such a comment about Shav.

Yeah it's looking like Shav is on his way out of the league. I always believed that Billy King only had Shav on the team because they both are Blue Devils.

Meh, every time he was on the floor, the team got energized and played well. And besides, I'm under the impression that 15 rebounds per 48 minutes (and not in a I-want-to-make-iladelph53-murder-somebody way like Reggie Evans) can be very beneficial to a team.

Shav will be packaged to Miami with WG for Zo...he's the key to the deal.

I have a feeling he is going to excel somewhere else next year. He ALWAYS played well when given extended minutes. Always. At the very least Shav is a good big to bring off the bench. Not sure if he's not playing due to not being healthy or Mo just likes Calvin Booth better.

LOL so if Shav plays an entire 48 minutes he'll get 15 rebounds? LMAO I wonder what the other guy he's going up against gets, 25?

Shav sucks...he was mediocore before and after the injury he just got worse.
His contracts up this year and i hope/believe we wont be seeing him anymore.

randolph was not and is not a bad player at all. he is instant energy, instant hustle, and instant rebounding. the only thing i can think of is that he is not 100% recovered from his injury (but that doesn't make sense if he isn't), otherwise he should be getting minutes. possibly more than or as many as smith and definitely more than booth.

i think people are forgetting just how well he played.

Nice player off the end of the bench for a good team, but this team has bigger issues than trying to see if he's a diamond in the rough. Can't see him sticking around next season.

What?

It's just a relative number to gauge how many rebounds he gets without considering playing time. Nobody is talking about having Shav play 48 minutes, I was simply showing he is a good rebounder.

Hey, I loved the Shav that was playing last season before he got hurt...but he got hurt, and he's still not playing yet.

What does that tell you?

It tells me that - unless I hear a story or medical opinion to the contrary - that while his injury has healed, he has lost just enough of what he had before the injury to not be an effective NBA player.

That's a shame...but it's not the first time that has happened to a professional athlete, and it won't be the last.

I emailed Jasner asking what was up.. heres his response

i would have thought randolph might be able to play by now. there's still soreness in the ankle after practice, but he does practice and he has worked hard, mostly catching up, which isn't easy during the season. i still think he has a future as a role player, if not with the sixers, then somewhere

hopefully it's on the sixers.

people really don't value hustle and effort and heart. which is odd, because that's why everyone loved iverson.

i'm not saying randolph is the iverson of the power forward position, but anyone who thinks he doesn't go out there and play his ass off is crazy. he could be a nice 6 point, 6 rebound guy off the bench. he's a very underrated rebounder.

Perhaps your expectations of him are a little too high.

Shav can box out, rotate smartly on defense, run the floor well, and hustle his butt off. If he's used his time wisely and added a bit of strength in the weight room he can also become a much better inside scorer as well because I think that might have been one of his biggest problem areas in that regard.

If healthy, he's a very solid backup big man.
Yeah it's looking like Shav is on his way out of the league. I always believed that Billy King only had Shav on the team because they both are Blue Devils.
Interesting story about that:

Billy King watched tape with Coach K when Boozer entered the draft. According to Billy, K told him that he didn't think Boozer could play in the league and Billy bought into that and formed that opinion. Ever since that time, Billy hasn't listened to K regarding his players. When Shav came out, once again K told Billy that Shav couldn't play, but since K was so wrong the first time, Billy decided to take a chance on Shav. And honestly, it worked out OK for the first year and a half, he was much better then I expected.

But now Shav is as healthy as he's going to be and he's not going to play if there aren't injuries. He's behind Evans, he's behind Smith, he's probably behind Herb, and he might even be behind Lou. His time in the NBA is likely coming to an end at the end of this year despite what he did for us last season. He's always getting singled out in practice and he's just not good enough.
