His numbers for this year look almost exactly like Banks' numbers.

If we ship out Banks, he would be a radically cheaper substitute, but not until we know Marcus is going to a place that will actually play him (I hope, for his sake).

Second string to the best PG in the league on a winning team seems much more comfortable.

If he is bought out, I have no problem for the Suns to pick him up. He's just another playmaker and shooter to spread the floor. Take the ball out of LB's hand when Nash sits. Take some minutes away from Raja, who's been playing hurt and firing bricks. And we still need a backup PG that MikeD would actually play so Nash can have more rest anyway.

If we can get him for the vet minimum, I'd say do it.

I disagree with everything you've said here.

1) He is what he is right now as far as a player, he's played a lot of seasons, so we know what kind of production he gives. He is not going to magically be an all-star in the Sun's system, nor should you expect him to be anything more than a role player.

2) Who in their right mind thinks they deserve to start over Steve Nash on his own team? Nobody. Not even Marbury would be that stupid.

3) We have guards on our roster but look at how many we use. We're really only 2 deep at both guard spots. 2 Deep is nothing. 1 Injury can be a disaster. And I don't count the rookies, in general, they seldom have good first years.

Please tell me how a PG that hasn't played at a high level since the 90's will help us. Yea, for his first 3 years as a Raptor, he looked like a star. However, after going to Portland, his career never got off the ground.

I just saw this article on the wiretap and thought it might be pretty interesting to notice that in case Mighty Mouse would get bought out we actually would most likely try to get him:

If Memphis' Damon Stoudamire reaches a buyout agreement with Memphis, it seems likely the Suns would be interested in him. It would not be costly. He likely would sign with a contender for a pro-rated veteran's minimum.

Stoudamire, 34, could give Phoenix a good open-court point guard who shoots well and is a vocal, veteran leader. He is also an ex-Portland teammate of Suns GM Steve Kerr, and both played at Arizona.

Thoughts? I'd prefer letting Banks play since he's the better defender, not to mention he'll be around for a few more years most likely, so burying him on the bench again doesn't make much sense.
I also doubt Damon still got much left in him, even though I used to be a huge fan of his back in the days when he played for Toronto. Wouldn't mind going for him, but I also doubt it would do much for us, to be honest.

No doubt that Banks' improved performance and development could be severely stunted if we brought in Damon but you've gotta like the effect it would have on the team in the short-term should this happen. Damon's an undoubtedly better play-maker.

Bit torn on this one. I would prolly pull the trigger on it and hope it doesn't stunt any improvement we've seen out of Banks.

Still seems a bit far-fetched that Grizzlies would buy him out to be honest. Unless he's willing to lower his asking price well below the 1m vetmin we would sign him for (ie. what he loses this season he hopes to make up for with a new contract in the offseason).

I think for Veteran's minimum he would be a huge pickup for the Suns. Lets face it, on a contending team it might light a fire under his ass to get his production up.

I think the Suns should jump at this opportunity. Sure we got a lot of guards, but adding Mighty Mouse would be good. He is a veteran who can spell Nash some minutes, he would be a much better facilitator then Barbosa or Banks, and he is CHEAP. I think this is a low risk high reward, and the Suns should definatly try to sign him if he is bought out. If not, there are plenty of other teams, like Golden State and Orlando, I'm sure would like to use the services of Stoudamire for the min.

Haha, me too. Salim is awesome, he will be a great guard in the future, shame Atlanta is log jammed at the 2 or else he'd get more playing time.
He needs to work a little bit on defense, but is a bonafide shooter and offensive time bomb. I would ecstatic if he ever puts on a Suns uniform.
