Battier - what's up with him?

Post#1 » by Xepa » Fri Jan 4, 2008 9:34 pm

I don't get to see the Rockets except when it's
national television, so what's up with Shane Battier?
Seems like he's taken a real drop off this year.
I've heard that it's due to Bonzi's style in Rick's
motion offense system, but I just want to get it
straight from the source. Injuries, new coach, etc.?

I just think his shot isn't going in, hes getting attempts and looks, but the shot just isn't falling for him, there are nights where its been falling, but hes been very inconsistent this yr.

Battier is a role player
he's not an all-star
but you know he plays hard for every game
last 3 years people expecting Alston to have high Ast/TO ratio and shoot over 40% from 3
if he's capable to do that then you are looking at an all-star
since Alston been playing great lately
now people are asking Battier to be an all-star?
Gay is not even an all-star yet

yah..I think he is just not right..

I know his value can't be seen on papers..but..his shots are not falling are not falling..

i think Rockets have been relatively good in last few games..(wouldn't say so for Orl as they blew double digits lead in 5 minutes)

Yao isn't going to be great, but he is a very very good player...

Seriously, I would trade Battier + T-Mac + MJ for right packages..

I think Battier still can come out and is 1 of the better defenders when he's on his game. Bonzi isn't going to be here next year and there's no guarding somebody like Kobe without a defender like Battier. My question is why has this man regressed in skill so much from his Duke days. The man had a post up game like an Elton Brand, undersized forward type of game and was a scorer on that Duke team and he continued on as a rookie and sophomore in the NBA. Now he's dropped off completely in these aspects of his game? What the **** happened? The man is now literally just a defender, passer and 3 point shooter? WTF is he thinking?

Struggling in the system. Was never that great of a defender but its more so seen now b/c he can't focus all his energy on defense. Has to care about offense now and its thrown him off.

We made the mistake by trading Rudy Gay for him....this is Gay's second year and he is already a far far better all around player than Battier is. But we gotta live with that.

Rudy Gay for Battier..I only think we could get a better deal

cuz I doubt Gay would make such improvements should he play in Rockets...

can u imagine his first yr under JVG?? next to Yao n T-Mac.

I still believe we hv a great future..however it's how we construct this team..

look Yao at his last few games..

Just doesn't fit. Too shy on offense, too timid, when this system is pro-creativity and awareness on the offensive end, Battier is the complete opposite.

man we would be a championship team with gay. gay even put up close to battier numbers last year in way less mins. and he is a far better one on one defender with his size then battier. face it guys. why the hell would we trade rudy gay for friking shane battier we had to know he had no atheltic abilty cant drive and is only a spot up three point shooter. we trade a guy that can get his own shot. get to the basket and is a freak for shane friking battier. worst trade ever

Poster from the Grizz boards likes to have a trade for perimeter defender and looking to unload Damon while some fans in here like a slasher and as 3rd scorer. Miami is looking for a shooter and was rumored to have an interest in Mike Miller. How about a three way trade?

Houston receive R. Davis

Miami receives Damon & M. Miller

Grizz receives Parker, Battier & Zo (to be waive)

Thoughts?

Battier may be, honestly, the most overrated player in the NBA. Think about it.

So much hype about basketball IQ and work ethic. Is he scoring points or helping us win games? Not really.

Neither does Mike James and Redd would put the ball in the bucket, but I was kiddin I would rather do a trade with the kings for Artest or Bibby.[/quote]

I would trade Battier in a second for a player more capable offensively with decent defense.
