HELSINKI (Reuters) - Former All-Star Scottie Pippen said on Friday he would love to return to the NBA as a coach. "My playing days are pretty much over, I've put my time in," Pippen, 32, told a news conference.

"I've walked away from a few assistant jobs, but they just haven't been the right situation for me. I hope to some day get back in the game."

When asked about head coaching, Pippen said "That would always be nice. It would be nice to start at the top...I am willing to do whatever it takes, but some day, yes, I would like to be a head coach."Former Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen plays for Finnish basketball league leader Torpan Pojat (ToPo) against Porvoon Tarmo in Helsinki, January 4,


Pippen added of his long-time team, the Chicago Bulls, who fired their coach last month: "I've shown some interest. I just have to wait and see," he told Reuters.

VANTAA, Finland: NBA great Scottie Pippen scored nine points for Finland league leader Torpan Pojat which beat Honka 98-85 on Saturday.

After a slow start, Pippen improved in the second half, smoothly grabbing nine rebounds and giving out several unselfish passes.

"It was great, I did not know what to anticipate without a game for the last three years," the 42-year-old Pippen said. "My conditioning is not at the top level but I played with a great team and had a lot of fun."

After trailing defending champion Honka of Espoo by 16 points with 4:36 left in the second quarter, ToPo rallied to win its 19th straight game in the Finnish league.

Interesting how he mentioned that he showed some interest in coaching the bulls and that he has turned down a few assistant coaching job's. I love Scottie I really do, but it's foolish to think that he can just walk into a head coaching position purely on his reputation of being a great player.

Interesting to see him still being able to ball a little, it is the lowly Finnish league but his first game had an impressive statine considering it was in just 12 minutes.

He plays his last game on Friday.

Because you know discussion and pub for this game was the impetus behind Sam's call to Pippen, then he let him ramble, and you've seen the result.

I don't agree. Assuming he's healthy (which isn't a safe assumption) and he's conditioned, he'd certainly be able to play 15-20 mins. Who knows how effective he'd be, but I find it difficult for anyone to argue that a 42 year old Pippen couldn't contribute more than Duhon's three poins and three assists.

Get that money, Pip. It's pretty cool that Pip is so highly respected in Finland. Basketball is truly the greatest game on Earth (sorry soccer/football whatever). I'm just sappy, but a country kid from Hamburg, Arkansas playing for appreciative fans in Finland is just plain cool. And we Americans appreciated the Hanno Mottola era. Thanks Finland.

Pippen was out of shape. 12 points in 23 mins don't mean nothing if you shoot 1-for-9 from 3pt (1-7 in the second game).

Its the metric system. In the US, that would be 27 pts, 16 rebounds.
