Chauncey choked. They weren't guarding him on the FT line, and he was making bad decisions on his own, regardless of the D.

And that "Sissy" foul was one that they called on the Pistons many times in this game. Ray was given a little extra leash by the refs because he was in foul trouble, but they had to call it at some point.
Honestly I think the refs were just shameful. I mean I know they were pretty bad towards. I didn't notice anything toward the Pistons because to be honest I'm biased about this type of stuff, my celtic's glasses are too thick. However if they were apparently doing the same thing to the Pistons then they really should be fired.

Massive game by Nash thus far, 21 and 8 on 8 for 10. Peterson with 5 threes already too.

Nice win by the Celts but Detroit definately made easy for them down the stretch. Not just the fts, but they missed a couple wide open jumpers too. I haven't see Detroit melt down like that for a long time.

Yes, it was terrible both ways. And after watching the Celtics broadcast (with Tommy and the other dude), I can understand why you think the Celts get hosed every game. They are by far the worst commentary guys in the business. Every call against the Celts is bad regardless, and they expect a foul on every possession the other way. It's so bad, frankly, I'm surprised Celtics fans like them.

Lol...coming from one of those fans who probably chant 'DEETTRROOIIIT BAAASKKKETTBAAALLL' with that moron Mason of yours, I will take it with a grain of salt. Tommy knows more about the game than ANY commentator out there..Sure he is a homer, but so are ALL color commentators.

 :nonono:

You are only talking about Heinsohn, don't say "they".
Gorman is a class act, one of the best in the business.

And why do we love Tommy? Because he's a legend and a shameless homer. The Celtics are his family, dude. His ref-bitching gets annoying, yeah. But none of us really care, because it's fun for CELTICS FANS to have such a lovable, legendary homer doing the color commentary. If you don't like him, stuff it.

Pierce went under the radar because of Davis, but he had a great game too, 19 points / 9 rebounds / 7 assists.

No, he really is one of a kind.
Some commentators are homers, most really aren't.
Tommy's homerism exceeds all others' by magnitudes.
Which is great for us, the ones he's doing the color commentary for.

Raises hand. It's about consistency, not just one game.
In a seven game series the Pistons would have a big bench advantage

Ahem, this isn't the first time the bench has had a big impact. Actually the first Celtics/Pistons game was one of the few times they sucked.

Check out the bench play prior to this game...The ONLY bad game they had was the first Detroit game..Just because we don't have big names on the bench or they don't show up on Sportscenter doesn't mean we don't have a bench. Our bench has been SOLID most games...But keep doubting

I can see how knowledgable Celtics fans would love Tommy, because they know he's over the top, he's one of them, and he's fun to listen to when he's on your side.

I'd worry about up-and-coming C's fans, though. Maybe I'm just being silly here, but if you grew up listening to Heinsohn, wouldn't you end up a bit confused as to how basketball should be played and called?

I dunno, just a hypothetical.

Been in the country for 7 yrs, been a C's fan for 7 yrs...he is a homer and over the top..but he analyzes plays well...And he hates the refs..lol..And guess what? He is right..the officiating, more often than not, is pathetic in the NBA

You know, it doesn't necessarily mean the C's bench is bad if someone thinks the Piston's bench is better. I think all but the most devoted Celtics haters would agree that Boston's bench has been far better than originally advertised.

It also might be that Pistons fans are excited about the first decent bench we've had -- made up of mostly youngsters -- in freaking forever. I expect Big Baby to be more seasoned by the time the playoffs roll around, and maybe even Tony Allen a little, but I don't think House, Posey, and Pollard are going to change much. By contrast, Maxiell's only in his second year getting any minutes and Stuckey's played all of what, 10 NBA games so far? I will say this -- if Stuckey and Max aren't fully ready come ECF time, Boston will take it.

I cannot stand DEEEETROIT BAAASKETBAAALLL (not that it even relates to what I was talking about). It was a good idea for a year or two, but it needed to be be put out to pasture a couple years ago.

And no, not all color commentators are horrific homers like Tommy. I've heard them all, and there are a couple that stand out as homers (Chi, Denver), but the majority know when to take off the glasses. No one is even close to Boston's.

How basketball should be called? Maybe, if the up-and-coming fan really gave a **** about learning the proper way to call a game objectively, which would be weird -- anyway, they could just watch video of the 80's NBA finals telecasts when Tommy was the premier color commentator in the game. How basketball should be played? He coached a team to one of the greatest records in history, and in two other seasons he coached a team to a title. He learned from the best coach in NBA history. I'm pretty goddamned sure he knows how basketball should be played, and in between bitching at the refs and orgasming over rookies making simple plays, he does a pretty good job communicating his vast knowledge of the game.
