Yao vs Dwight
obviously the majority of people would rather have dwight howard for the future. But after seeing their two head to head match ups, while also taking into consideration their overall performance up to this point in the season, who is the number one center in the league?

So far this season, I think there's really no way you can argue Yao has been better.
Dwight has scored more, rebounded better than anybody in the league, blocked more shots and scored at a MUCH more efficient rate (48% to 60%) and the Magic are one of the better teams in the NBA while the Rockets are under .500.

i think yao matches up well against dwight. but against the rest of the league howard is much better. the only reason anyone can even make a case for yao being better than dwight is because of last night(even though it really wouldn't be logical seeing it was only one game and it also was in the regular season). other than that yao has nothing going for him.

well, in almost every game, Yao has outplayed Dwight. (as least, statistically). And the only way for it not to be a regular game is if they meet in the Finals and we know that's not happening.

yeah the only way they are going to meet right now is in the finals. and thats the only time anyone is actually gonna care. nobody is going to remember these regular season matchups between yao or dwight. yes yao ming has outplayed dwight over the years. but this year dwight won the matchup one game and yao ming won the matchup most recently. dwight howard is playing a lot better than yao ming statistically and in pretty much every other way this season, it really isn't close either. all i think it is, is that yao ming matches up well with dwight at this point. does that make him better? i dunno. for some reason al harrington owns yao ming. does that make him better? probably not.

It's really the match up problem, they are the 2 best center in the league right now. Who is better? Depends on the opponents they are playing against. Personally if i am the owner of the organization I will put Yao over Dwight 100 out of 100 times. Why? Yao has more economical value than Dwight can ever be dream of.
I was fan of Shaq for the last 12 years, Yao fan for the last 5 years, and probably going to be Dwight and Yao fan for the next 10 years. I hate how this league is turning into, basketball suppose to be big man's game not some run and gun street ball like sport.
Dwight=Yao Only 2 true center in the league that can dominant

I would still take Yao because Dwight has no offensive game except if he's really close to the basket.
Yao has more range and thus is better offensively(despite having lower FG%, but being the main offensive weapon for the Rockets, it's bound to happen).
Dwight has all offensive weapons(rashard, hedo, jameer) and they space out the floor for him making it really to get position.
if Yao were on the Magic, they would not be under.500 at home, I can tell you that. They would be better with Yao than with Dwight.
If Dwight were on the Rockets, with McGrady out, he would be terrible, the Rockets would probably lose games 77-71 because they can't score.

I was actually quite reluctant to say Dwight at the beginning of the season since i thought Yao was still capable of putting up numbers like he did last season. But as the season progressed, Yao has regressed and Dwight has improved dramatically, so i'd say Dwight is better. But it is still annoying to see homers like toonice trying to degrade Yao as much as possible to make dwight look like god.

yao is not better offensively. people have this odd perception that howard doesn't have any offensive game or something just because he doesn't adventure out of the paint all the time. just because yao can hit that turn around jumper doesn't make him better offensively. frankly how often does yao do anything other than take that little jumper? he often settles for it than trying to be aggressive and get deep post position. dwight has a higher FG %, scores more points, even averages a tad less turnovers, and is better at drawing contact(hint his FTA nearly double yaos). yao has a better FT% and dishes out 1 more assist. statistically yao has hardly anything on offense. and seeing that orlando is a superior offensive team, with howard as the focus, than houston, with yao as the focus(who even has an offensive coach and mcgrady). i am not sure what makes yao so much better than howard offensively. please enlighten me .

yeah where did i exactly degrade yao? all i did was state my opinion. whether you agree with it or not doesn't matter. can't help that i was right at the beginning of the season when i said howard was gonna be better and you thought i was wrong.

You seem to follow up every thread there is about Yao and Dwight and saying Dwight is the greatest etc and Yao is not close, that clearly seemss to be your motive, you even did it in your last two post 'yao has nothing going for him' etc.
If your opinion that dwight is better offensively, other people have their opinion that yao is better on offence, why do you keep forcing your opinion on others like you did the last thread. It just seems that even the smallesst thing said about dwight will have you chucking a fit.

I'm still not sure about this whole 'Dwight has no offensive game' garbage people are spewing out.
He scores 22 ppg on 60% shooting! What the hell kind of weakness is that in his game? What would he average if he DID have an offensive game, 40 ppg?
Yao bothers Dwight when they go head to head so I can see why you'd think Dwight isn't that good on offense yet because that's probably the only time you watch him, but contrary to popular (or Rocket fan) belief, he has one of the better post games in the league.

i am not forcing my opinions on other or trying to belittle yao like you clame. realistically what does yao having going for him at this moment to prove he is better than dwight right now? also i am just questioning people's "logical" opinions that dwight isn't good on offense but somehow is top 10 in scoring, leading the league in FTA, and is shooting 60% from the field. does that not make no sense? but whatever i am not sure what your motive is? to come call me out in every yao and dwight thread. you seem to be the one having a fit about it. but whatever its all good.

Dwight gets his offensive points on set-up finishes and power moves. So basically, he is utilizing his athleticism to get his points, which is fine. He has a monstrous body, he should take advantage of that. However, as time passes, he will find that all the effort of rebounding and dunking and mowing his way through the defense will take its toll on his body. Yao has a firm offensive foundation, with basically every move in the book. When Yao is in his 30's, he will still be extremely efficient offensively, because he has the moves. However, if Dwight does not spend more time on his footwork and turnaround and hookshot (which has improved greatly), he will find it hard to mow through younger, even stronger 25 year old centers when he is 30, and he will not be able to use his raw power and athleticism to score.
