As far as player appraisal is concerned, the Bulls specifically place a premium on pre-draft workouts. I'm not calling Tyrus a Wade type franchise player, but I am willing to say that the NCAA Tourney performance alone did not make Paxson a believer in Tyrus. Based on the oft heard comments about the rigor of the Bulls' workouts, I'm willing to believe Tyrus showed something special.

Red Larrivee, you are talking a little out of your backside right now. Wade out of High School was nothing spectacular.

More than anyone Wade benefitted from a great tournament. Most people thought he would stay for his senior year but really took off. He was a mid to late first rounder before the tourney but like I said he established himself as a lottery pick with a great tournament. A lot of people even thought Miami at 5 was a reach for Wade. He was by no means a mega star in college though.
Tyrus, almost his entire freshman year was a lottery pick if you looked at all the major mock draft sites. His tournament performance solidified him from top 10 to top 5. I'm not saying Tyrus will become a franchise player but don't act like we should have seen it coming with Dwyane Wade.

qft.
If we did a blockbuster deal and the Bulls got better for it, I'm down wit dat.
If we got ish for TT and he goes on and has a perrennial allstar career somewhere else, I'd don my black trenchcoat, arm myself to the teeth and start making headlines.
I also agree with doug that TT is not likely to be a franchise player and has only a possibility he may be an eventual all-star, let alone an all star year after year.
But if we get shafted in a trade and he DOES blow up...watch out!

As a Bulls fan, it will make me furious because it confirms the penny pinching ways of this organization and their constant preference to sell the team to the fans by means of name recognition, even if name recognition means brining in washed up players whose talents are beyond their prime (Jalen Rose, Ben Wallace, and probably Jason Kidd soon).
As a Bulls fan, it will make me furious because they didn't give him an opportunity when he deserved it.
And as a Bulls fan, it will affect me when posters will wish Tyrus was still here after seeing him blow up elsewhere, and his current detractors will then use the pathetic response/excuse that "Oh well that's the past" or "move on, we have to live with what we have" or "Oh he wouldn't ever have fit in our system anyway."
The only way I wouldn't be affected in a bad way is if he's involved in a trade to get a legitimate superstar--Kobe, LeBron, Dwight Howard, Duncan, Nash. The list pretty much ends there.
But since we won't bother to play him anyway don't be surprised to see a Jason Collins for Tyrus deal come soon, or something along those lines.
this post pretty much sums it up. Tyrus is an impact player in the future, if not already at times. He deserves a chance to play right now and as a die hard bulls fan my hate for the coaching staff continues to fester and grow as he continues to ride the bench or randomly be inserted for minutes after marking up another dnp the game before. It's frustrating for fans so I imagine it's atleast 10 times as frustrating for tyrus. Even more frustrating is for the bulls organization to draft a player that needs development such as tyrus then refuse to give him developmental minutes in games which is a necessity. I'm just confused on how tyrus's minutes can seemingly decrease after a playoff series against the pistons in which he was arguably our most effective and impactful player.
Also, another thing to keep in mind being an eastern conference team that will have to play against lebron several times a year, is that with tyrus's size and athleticism he was likely envisioned by pax to be a lebron stopper (which I think he will be to an extent), but he can't just magically become a player like that over night like it seems skiles planned for. This league is getting younger and young players need development. If we aren't going to take the time to develop players and invest in their futures we will become the clippers of the east with a better reputation

Are you really going to compare Dwayne Wade to Tyrus Thomas? Really are you?
Dwayne Wade had a great high school and college career, and the only reason he really wasn't recruited so much was because people believed that he was going to get held back by his school-work, because he was having problems with that. He was on the All-American Team, he led Marquette in scoring both years he was there, led them to the final four, and gave them their schools best record since around 93. Wade was great, and was touted for a while in college. But nobody thought he was Lebron, or Darko (lol).
Tyrus Thomas had an average college season, and he had a great run in the tournament. That's it. If it wasn't for that tourney run, Tyrus Thomas wouldn't even be on this team right now. He wasn't touted, he wasn't pre-season ranked, he wasn't hyped up. Nothing. He was not that great of a player at all. But since NBA-Draft Stock raises because of tournament play, he got up in the top 5. He wasn't even on the draft-radar when the season started.
He can be a fine player, but don't compare Tyrus's college career to Wade's, especially when Wade had a great skill set, and still does, while Tyrus was just an athlete, with 0 type of an NBA game.
wow..u couldn't be more wrong that you are with this post buddy
John Paxson said TT got his attention when LSU played UCONN and TT beasted against their squad with no fear like the game wasn't even important. That's when he became a gem in Pax's eyes.
He was also rated top 10 that ENTIRE college season by ESPN. LOL
Not only that, draft day the MAJORITY of the espn staff spoke on him being the BEST player out of the draft. There were a few exceptions that believed in Bargnani & Morrison (mainly Mark Stein & Legler).
You're speaking a bunch of nonsense buddy.
If it wasn't for TT, LSU would of been a non-factor that season.

He didn't become 'great' until the playoffs of his rookie season.
Wade was a classic "tweener" coming out of college. While he was a high prospect, there were concerns about whether or not his game would translate to the pro's (remember, he wasn't a great shooter).

Tyrus was not on everyone's list all year.
You can look up historical mock's on webarchive. The first nbadraft.net archive they had him on was 1/9/2006 where he debuted at #7. Draftexpress's archive doesn't work as well for whatever reason (I have no idea how web archive decides to archive pages), and the earliest 2006 mock they have is feb 3rd (which he was on).
I don't think anyone had him early in the season though, he was a red shirt freshman, and he wasn't a highly touted recruit. I don't think anyone expected much of him to start the year.
It's apples to oranges though. Whatever you think about Wade coming out of college, he showed very quickly that he was going to be a very good NBA player. Tyrus Thomas hasn't done that yet.

I give people a hard time occasionally because I think they're biased about Tyrus. I obviously can't claim I'm 100% objective though. I'd be disappointed if Tyrus was traded because I have so much fun watching him play.
Well they don't even play the same position, so I'd say your prediction was pretty poor.
And if he was 5'10 he wouldn't have been a top pick either. So? The reality is that Tyrus was an incredibly late bloomer who came out of nowhere. That's rare but he's far from the first player to develop that way. Pippen managed to be named one of the 50 best players of all time after developing in a similar fashion.
I don't see the problem with his college performance either. Hollinger's draft projection system rated him as the player likely to have the most NBA success based on his college stats. He led a team to the Final Four. What's mediocre about his college play?

I'd be perfectly fine if it was part of a consolidation trade for a star. For example Gasol.
If he's traded for mediocre vet or something similar, I will be angry. Very, very angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

16 pts 6.7 reb 2 ast 1 stl 1 blk 1.7 to's Outlaws numbers prorated to 35 minutes.
According to 82games.com he 83 percent of his shots are jumpers. I highly doubt him and tyrus are that similar.
Well thats a good thing because outlaws per 48 has been steadily rising as he recieved more playing time check out the numbers yourself

Comparing Tyrus to Wade??? What the hell?
Compare him to Travis Outlaw and Stromile Swift because that is the type of player Tyrus was coming out of college. All potential but no skills beyond being athletic and long.
Those are pretty good comparisons. So are Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace, Amare, Mcdyess, Kemp, Balkman, Blatche, Garnett, Steven Hunter, Sean Williams, Tyson Chandler, Amir Johnson, Solomon Jones, Rashard Lewis, Jason Maxiell, Theo Ratliff, Chris Wilcox, and I'm probably missing more.
All of these guys came into the league with no skills, all arms and legs, all on pogo sticks, and some took off right away, like Amare, some took a couple years, like Gerald Wallace, some took even longer, like Outlaw, and some never did., like Hunter.
Whatever you think of the issue, don't pretend to have any knowledge about what sort of player Tyrus will become. We're all just guessing here.

I expect better from you red. I will name only one player and it's only because they are the most recent. I can name many more.
Dwayne Wade
I agree Tyrus won't be a franchise player and it's because he doesn't have the head for it. Nothing to do with his physical abilities. It's just your line of reasoning there is horrible.
Not to mention Kevin Martin, Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, etc.
