Zaza Pachulia?

Post#1 » by KNEMESIS » Sun Jan 6, 2008 6:23 pm

I've been very quiet this season. This sucks beyond belief - and we're just so limited with what we can do to get out from under this mess. So hear me out - I'm trying to be creative and see if we can get at least something for nothing.

With the logjam they have at big forward, looks like Zaza's role has been seriously reduced in Atlanta. Could he be had at a reasonable price? Maybe Fred Jones expiring? Zaza works hard, plays D, rebounds and can shoot the mid-range jumper. I think he'd compliment either Eddy or Zach coming off the bench. One of those 2 has to go, and whoever stays, start 'em alongside DLee. Of course the bigger problem is finding a taker for even one of our biggest headcases... Eddy, Zach and Marbury.
Really? Jared Jeffries. Seriously?

I like Zaza as a player, he was obviously the guy to sign in the off season we signed Jerome. But I think he'd be stuck in just as much of a logjam here if we got him than he is in Atlanta. With Eddy/Lee/Zach filling up most of those minutes, no point in adding Zaza.

That's why I said one of those 2 (Eddy/Zach) has to go.

Pachulia's always been a C...why would he be impacted by the PF crunch? And as far as defense goes? I wouldn't exactly call him a stalwart defensively. His strong point is on the offensive end.

Yes, I think Zaza would pair effectively with either Z-Bo or Curry, more so Z-Bo.

Because they're starting Horford, a PF, at C. Plus they've got a glut of F's - P or otherwise. Enough with the alphabet soup. His minutes are down and it looks like they're giving more time to their recent draft picks - not to say they're wrong for doing that - but it could be to our advantage if we could trade for Zaza.

As I said Pachulia's strength is on the offensive end. He is not a strong defensive player, he's not a shotblocker, and he's not someone that will provide toughness down low when the other team has the ball. Sure if he can be had for cheap, but he's really not going to do much for this team IMHO.

As far as improving this team? Yeah, they need to thin this roster up and try to land another 1st rounder (as there will be several strong defensive bigs that are projected to go the 2nd half of the 1st round).

Moving Randolph (and Mardy Collins) to the Lakers may be a possibility (for Kwame Brown, Sasha Vujacic and a 1st). Brown's contract expires at seasons end and Vujacic is needed just for matching salaries.

This team is far beyond where a tweak here or there is going to help. As much as we are afraid of more changes, changes IS what they need...and pretty significant ones. There is nothing that this team can "grow" into (let's just be a little honest here) so keeping the core together in the hope that another year together will help is just Fool's Gold (or based on how they've played in recent memory more like Fool's Tin Foil).

Cause we pretty much run a 3 big rotation on this team. Often Lee & Zach are on the floor together.

Who's minutes is Zaza going to get? Maliks? OK, I'm fine with that, but is that enough minutes to make this trade?

- on the trade Curry or Z-Bo for Zaza, I don't like him that much. We should try to do better if we trade one of those 2.
