Are you kidding me? Dirk cant even post up Gibson off the cavs Newble held him in check most the game. Dirk is a great shooter no doubt but he's uber soft in the post.

He's 11 in the league at free throws / feild goal, and 10th in the league in FTA. The 2nd best bigman at getting to the line behind Dwight. Suprisingly enough those foul shots don't come from jumpers......

I don't think that makes him soft, though. If you're trying to post up a player who's (a) stronger physically than you are, (b) has leverage on his side, and (c) is allowed to get his body into you and shove you around, I think that just makes you susceptible to the laws of physics. Dirk is certainly physically weak, and you could argue that he's mentally soft on occasion, but I don't see him as being soft overall.

Yeah but compared to Mehmet Okur he's the definition of toughness.

I ran a screen for PF's or C's who have played at least 800 minutes who average less than 9 rebounds per 40 minutes and fewer than 4 free throws per 40 minutes. Here are the results:

Code: Select all

Player        REB  FTA
diaw,boris    6.1  2.1
harrington,a  7.5  3.4
moore,mikki   8.1  3.0
okur,mehmet   6.4  3.6

I think you have to give Diaw and Harrington a pass. Both are glorified SF's trying to play PF. Mikki Moore and Mehmet Okur are the two softest big men in the NBA right now among regular-rotation guys.

Hmmm. Digging a little deeper, I note that Diaw commits just 2.4 fouls per 40. That's a guy who is afraid of contact. The other 3 guys on my list commit at least 4.5 fouls per 40.

Maybe Diaw really is the softest player in basketball.

He is a totally different player with Amare on the floor in my opinion...

In my opinion there are different levels of soft...

I used to hear all day long how David Robinson was soft and if that is the case 95% of all big men in the NBA are soft.

If you say that he is physically soft meaning, he doesn't get boards, he isn't an active player on D, and basically plays smaller than his size, well Eddy Curry is your guy

If you say that being mentally soft, not playing to his level in big games... it is recently Dirk with his past playoff performances.

I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone could have voted for anyone other than Eddy Curry.

I wouldn't say it's because Mikki's really "soft" as much as the fact that he's rail thin. But the guy isn't afraid to mix it up inside.

What are you stupid? He averages close to a double double 20 pts and 9 rebounds and you're calling him soft? More than half his points are either from the paint or from the line. That fat pylon from your team (Curry) is probaby the softest 500 pounder thats ever existed
