Good point on the roster size. I think buying out a fifth player this year would be a hard thing to ask of Glen Taylor, but perhaps with the future savings, he'd be willing to buy out the rest of Doleac's expiring.

You might want to switch Gomes for Craig Smith. I think that Gomes is the more developed player (which NJN might appreciate), and MIN fans are probably more attached to the developing Smith.

I don't like it for the Wolves - they're not going to use Craig Smith to move Jaric.

Good, because the Nets aren't excited enough about Smith to absorb Jaric.

I'm not sure where or how this Jaric-to-NJ train of thought came about, but I can assure you there is nothing on our roster that we will give for him. Gomes and/or Smith isn't even adequate sweetener to us.

Right now, Magloire and Wright are contributing little for us. But they are expiring contracts, and we are a cap-conscious team, considering our "gate" is among the worst in the NBA. If it's not a really good deal to push us into a another tier of contention, New Jersey will keep its expirings.

Orlando easily reject this.

I seriously doubt they'd be willing to trade expirings for Crawford's horrible contract. I'm sure they wouldn't go for the acquisition of Rose too.

Orlando is pretty much already capped out for years to come so adding Crawford and Rose, both of whom would serve a much greater role than any of the guys they'd be giving up makes sense. Talent wise, it's an upgrade. Rose gives them a tough and crafty playoff tested PF and Rose a clear upgrade at SG over Bogans.

Craig Smith for shedding contracts (primarily Marko Jaric)...that's debatable. Really depends on whether the Wolves think they can do something with that salary shedding.

New York Knicks

Don't like it.

There would have to be too many moves in order for the Knicks to be able to get under the salary cap enough so before Crawfords contract expires where it really matters.

And saddling them with Walker and Madsen really doesn't help anything even remotely unless the goal is to have a team of PF's.

Any kinda of logic of "but the Knicks suck anyways" should be tempered by looking t where most of the players that they'd be getting would be coming from.

New Jersey Nets

I'm pretty sure the Nets, unlike their cross-town neighbors the Knicks, want to avoid the luxury tax at all costs. While adding Craig Smith is nice I doubt they'd want Jaric's contract. They already have 2 young PF's that offer them good depth in Sean Williams (who they are extremely excited about) and Josh Boone.

The logic behind the Nets needing a PF is really based on a proven PF that can start and carry the load in the post RIGHT NOW (i.e. why there were rumors about possibly Jermaine Oneal). That (a player of JO's caliber) is not Craig Smith.
