Tmac and Deke to meet US Sec. of State

Post#1 » by Baller 24 » Mon Jan 7, 2008 6:58 pm

Matters of state
Before the Rockets face the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, Rockets Dikembe Mutombo and Tracy McGrady will have important business in town.

"I've been invited to meet with (Secretary of State) Condoleezza Rice and the under secretary (of African Affairs) Jendayi Frazer," Mutombo said. "They wanted to thank me and Tracy for the work we continue to do outside the basketball court.

"I wanted Tracy to come, because it is so important to me to introduce my friend, that's my best friend, to those big politicians, especially at the State Department, because of the work he's doing and the concern we all have about what is happening in Darfur, with so many millions killed and millions more displaced. ... I'm going to try to get him (McGrady) in more things."

Asked what he hoped to accomplish with the meeting, Mutombo said, "To end the war and stop the suffering in Darfur."

True. If the U.S. wanted to stop the suffering in Darfur, they would have done something already. The fact of the matter is that the people running the show don't care.

So it isn't a matter of bringing something to someone's attention or convincing them of the error of their positions. Appeals to morality won't make any difference if morals are absent from the equation.
