Another Nocioni trade
Mods; feel free to merge this into the trade ideas thread if you see fit.
Trade ID #4393465
Bulls trade:
- Andres Nocioni
- Chris Duhon
Magic trade:
- Keyon Dooling
- J.J. Redick
- Pat Garrity
* We'd cut Demetris Nichols or JamesOn Curry to make this happen.
ICLO; this would be tough for Orlando to pass up. For one, Duhon gives them a good ball control PG who can get the ball to their scorers while playing good perimeter defense. Nocioni is similar to Lewis and Turkoglu as a 3/4 type of guy but is certainly a drastic upgrade over Garrity or any of their other backup big men. He should fit right in as a good 6th man to spread the floor for Dwight.
1. Nelson, Duhon, Arroyo
2. Bogans, Evans
3. Lewis, Nocioni
4. Turkoglu, Cook, Gortat
5. Howard, Battie, Foyle
We don't get a stellar return, but ICLO, one that'll work toward balancing the roster and cutting salary (maybe we can squeze the rights to Vasquez out of them too?). Keyon Dooling is pretty good at filling the "instant offense" role off the bench or maybe he can take the SG spot on the starting squad in Duhon's absence (at the least, he's expiring). Either way, he's a pretty good scorer who is constantly looking to attack the rim; something we don't have. Redick is another undersized SG but he's smart and can shoot the lights out when given the chance. For the offense we run (2 and 3 running off screens for open shots) Redick would be a nice fit as a situational bench player. Garrity isn't anything special but is expiring.
This also allows Thabo to be put into a good position to succeed; getting more minutes at the 3 backing up Deng, not to mention Nocioni's absence opens more PT for Thomas, Noah and Gray.
Our rotation would probably look something like this:
1. Hinrich, Gordon, Dooling
2. Dooling, Gordon, Sefolosha, Redick
3. Deng, Sefolosha, Thomas
4. Smith, Thomas, Noah
5. Wallace, Noah, Gray

I understand the reasoning for this trade. It opens up minutes for all of the young guys and gives us a shooter off of the bench.
That being said, can we really afford to make Orlando that much stronger? They're going to be a direct rival for years. I'd be very unhappy if we strengthened their depth by so much.

It should be pointed out that I, poster JGeils, once scored a lefty running hook on Keyon Dooling as two college friends of mine laughed (I had started the move by making an effeminate grunt, a sign to them that I was about to bust out my Toni Kukoc impression) from the sideline and Keyon flailed away.

I'm willing to "lose" a Nocioni trade to almost any team. But Orlando isn't one of them. They terrify me.
Cliff Levingston has never put much stock into this sort of idea. If it makes you a better team then it shouldn't matter who you're trading with. You'll be more successful in building your own way rather than worrying about what other teams are doing.
That said, this wouldn't be one of Cliff Levingston's first choices (as indicated in his sig). We should try to get a good/serviceable big 2 like Miller or Maggette before we look to trade Noc for cap relief.

But the thing is, we're not sure if it makes us better. It could easily make us worse.

Here @ RealGM we concluded that Nocioni's negatives outweigh his positives, so wouldnt you want him in a team that will be contending against the Bulls for years to come?

It's different for us. His negatives are that he takes away minutes from Thomas and Noah. He also shouldn't play PF on our team because we have a 6'7" center. Orlando wouldn't have those problems. He'd help them more than he helps us.

Well that's the idea, otherwise they don't have any incentive to make the trade.
He'd also (most likely) continue to play too far off his man on defense even though he's got a ridiculous shot blocker behind him, giving up plenty of wide open jump shots.

So we should hire someone that thinks he shouldnt take minutes away from Noah/Tyrus. Because so far we havent been lucky. Also, how is it that Deng doesnt take minutes away from Noah/Tyrus? No one (including coaches) has noticed that, and he (Deng) played as bad as you can play not so long ago. Another mistery!

"Here @ RealGM" you've evidently reached a conclusion I don't share with regard to his net value as a player on most rosters.
I think he'd rightfully start at small forward effectively for a good number of teams in the NBA.
My desire to trade him away from Chicago has everything to do with the construction of our roster and very little to do with whether or not Nocioni is a good player.

Um, because the Bulls don't play him at power forward?

I'm guessing you went to Mizzou?

plus one. why trade a valuable player who could be 6th man on a title team for crap. one of the worst trades i have seen from a valued poster on this site.
Granville Colter is very disappointed in cliff levingston.
