But they already have Battie on the books for three years -- is switching him to Jaric's 4 really such a big change. In other words, having Murphy + Battie is almost the same. Is that so bad?
Although I didn't realize that Battie was resigned to 3+ years at 6 mil per year.....my initial thought ( without haivng any Magic fans chime in ) is that it's still a bad thing.
Unless the Magic are desperate to upgrade their backcourt and love what Jaric can do and they don't have a need for Battie ( now that Foyle is there )....then I still think that Cap flexiblity is a very desierable thing to have for GMs and teams.

But you're not talking about Jaric .. you're talking about using it on Murphy. IND is not going to take on an injured Battie for Murphy, so its Murphy for the expirings, and Jaric for Battie .. a guy who already squeezes flexibility.
So except for the fourth year the cap flexibility is the same:
Murphy + Battie or Murphy + Jaric both squeeze flexibility by improving their chances this year.
No Murphy + Battie (or Jaric) retains the expirings, reducing ORL's chances, but maintaining flexibility.

Jaric expires one year after Battie and their contract have about the same per year value. I don't think it makes that much of a difference for a team trying to contend, especially a team that's capped out like Orlando. Essentially they're just using Cook + expirings to get Murphy, which Orlando is definitely willing to do. Plus they swap their late 1st for a couple of 2nds and get Gomes on top of this. I think it's definitely a deal that they shouldn't pass

Okay...all of you have convinced me that the Magic would probably take on both Murphy and Jaric.
I have ZERO problem with any trade for the Pacers that moves Murphy that doesn't cust of Granger, Shawne Willilams, Ike or JONeal.
