Great point. V is improving on defense and rebounding tremendously. We might want to hold on to him. That said, if him and Gadz could produce Artest or Maggete I'd go for it.

Some are saying no to Artest, but he is exactly what we need, a leader.

I think you could go with Bogut/Voshkuhl or Bogut/Ruffin tandems up front when necessary. You're obviously better defensively than you would be with Villanueva on the floor and there's nothing to suggest the offense would suffer if there were other scorers on the court with them.

The benefits of trading for a SF are 1) it actually gives the Bucks a legitimate player at the position; 2) it gives Yi more minutes and 3) it pushes Dez to the end of the bench where he belongs once he gets healthy and/or it pushes Simmons there if his play doesn't improve.

It'd be nice to start a game not playing 4-on-5 for a change. That'd be a nice change of pace.

I know simmons was a popular player back in his LA days. Maybe dunleavy would bring him back and give us maggette if CV came along with him.

Even though maggette doesn't help our defense much, he'd be a big talent upgrade at the three, and the bucks could just go back to their uptempo style of last year with mo/redd/maggette carrying the load.

I think that team could pile up points and at least be a playoff contender.

I have no problem with CV these days. He was without confidence at the start of season and needed time to get comfortable with his new role as a bench player. But now he is fine. I would have no problem with him being our long term solution for scoring from bench.

I posted a Simmons/CV swap for Cassell/Maggette but I doubt that Sterling would take on Simmons contract just to acquire CV, but you never know.

I'm not really aware of what Julian Wright's been up to this year but I know he's someone the Bucks liked in the draft and someone that I liked coming out of Kansas. Would Wright for CV be fair?

I would probably do it

Wright is a smart player that can defend and play the three and some four. He hasn't shown too much this year. But we'd have him on a rookie scale contract for a few more years to figure out where he's at.

For the job security of the management making these decisions (Harris) I'm betting he's looking to turn CV into a veteran SF, one who can help us win now.

Why would the Hornets trade their rookie lottery pick?

Diaw was succesful on the Suns as a PF/C only, he has barely played SF at all. Main reason he was good was because of the mismatches he had against slower big guys, which allowed him to created shots for himself and his teammates.

Magette and Gomes sound like realistic targets.
An unmedicated Artest wouldn't be a good fit for this team.

Woelfel did overtly suggest CV was the guy on the blocks, not sure who else would have real value off there bench, but he did not specifically say for a 3, he said a starting caliber player. I can't see the Bucks moving CV for only a 3, that would leave you with three SF's and zero back-ups at the 4. This will probably have to be a multiple player deal or multiple team deal.

I'm not necessarily endorsing any of the following (nor am I saying any of it is necessarily a bad idea), but I am told the Bucks thinking is as follows:

What would happen if CV is traded for a "starting caliber" SF is that guy would become our starting SF, Yi's minutes at PF would go up, and then the backup situations would be a mix and match situation with Bell and Simmons being the guys to get the bulk of the minutes necessary to cover the gaps at SF and PF, adding Desmond to that equation as well when he gets back from injury.

Bell would be used at PG and SG, and would in effect provide us with SF minutes if necessary by playing SG while Redd slides up to SF. Simmons could provide backup minutes at SF and backup minutes at PF, but if he isn't playing well he can replaced on the small side with more minutes for Bell and/or Ivey and on the big side with more minutes for Voskuhl and/or Ruffin. There is also a concern that we need to start watching Mo's minutes so we don't overburden him with too many minutes and wear him down so much he ends up with some of the nagging injuries that have plagued him in the past.

Voskuhl or Ruffin would be used at backup center depending on the particular matchup at the time and Gadzuric will just rack up more DNP-CDs except in rare situations of foul trouble or injuries.
hmmmm okay, so if you had to guess a target as far as a player or a team that might have interest in CV, who would you guess?

I think Houston is the best fit for CV. Beside Yao and Battier.

Other teams include San Antonio (reprising Big Dog's role), LA Lakers could use another scorer, Orlando could plug him him, New York as well to better complement either Curry or Randolph. I think that Toronto would love to have him back at this point, with Barfnani "busting" out.

Who makes sense. Note, these are not actual trades, just potential targets.

Minnesota: Ryan Gomes. Just makes sense. Corey Brewer? Has been fairly disappointing. CV could be a decent complement to Jefferson's inside game.

EastSideBucksFan wrote:I'd like to see us make a play for Gomes...he'd be ideal and he seems expendable in MN. The guy can play SF, but can also bang with PF's. Plus he's young and would help round out our front line quite nicely.

I think Ryan Gomes would fit well for you, and is a reasonable return for Villanueva. I agree with europa that Corey Brewer is probably wishful thinking ..a rebuilding team like MIN doesn't need to see production to want to keep its #7 pick from the last draft.

However, I don't think Villaneuva is a particularly good fit with Al Jefferson. MIN does best when Al is playing PF, and they like Craig Smith there too, CV can play some SF, but they assume that's where Brewer's going when he puts on some weight, they want to see what Gerald Green can do, and Jaric played there all last season. The value in a CV-Gomes deal is probably right though, so maybe a third team would help?

Also, for those that don't want to get rid of CV, there is another alternative to getting Gomes. MIN is one of the few teams that might have a use for Gadzuric (next to Al), and clearly his four year deal and lack of production is a problem for MIL. A deal that I think helps both teams is Gadzuric plus a lottery-protected 1st for Jaric AND Gomes. MIN loses about 18 PPG, but they don't need the production this season. Jaric's certainly more useful than Gadzuric to MIL, and Gomes, I think has the right skills and attitude to help the bucks, and you'd still hang onto Villanueva.

I think it might have been a MN poster but I saw a deal offered Gadz/#1 for Gomes and Jaric on here somewhere

I would jump all over that deal if really available

I love the comparison between us and that C-Webb's Sacramento team Sigra did; I find it very smart .

Same here. I'm sure I am in the minority but I'd be pretty disappointed if we traded CV without getting something significant in return.

A lot of people here have compared him negatively to TT because of his inconsistency and tendency to hang out on the perimeter... but TT was a great player to have coming off the bench before he signed his big contract and was always a huge asset off the bench in the playoffs. CV on his rookie contract is a valuable player to have the next two years.

I also don't see Yi as a significantly better player at this point in his career. He's better on defense but Charlie V. is a much better offensive player and a much better passer.

Indiana is really cooling down after a hot start and that is a team that could go in a rebuilding direction.

Would they want to get out of Dunleavy's contract? A Mason/CV for Dunleavy trade might work for both teams.
