After sitting out Tuesday's practice, Ray Allen told reporters he has a pinched nerve that is causing numbness and tingling in three fingers on his right hand. Coach Doc Rivers expects Allen will miss the game and that reserve guard Tony Allen will start in his place.

"Three of my fingers started going numb, and then yesterday my pinky started discoloring, so that's when I knew it was something a little worse than I thought," Allen said. "It's radiating down [from my neck] through my shoulder blade. It's an uncomfortable feeling."

Meanwhile, after his breakout game in Detroit, Big Baby Glen Davis may also sit out with a sore left knee. Davis hurt his knee in the fourth quarter against the Pistons when he went to the deck hard after being fouled on a layup.

Maybe Ray's injury will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Similar to how the Red Sox rested up some of their pitchers allowing them to be a little fresher in the playoffs. Just some positive thinking!

Yes, rest up Ray, Getting like 65+ wins is meaningless. You make statements in the playoffs, not by how many regular season wins you have. Hopefully Doc doesn't take the Maverick approach.

Regular season wins are anything but meaningless. YOu want home court advantage throughout the playoffs. A tough series vs. San Antonio or Detroit could easily be decided by 1 game.. They also earn respect from the refs which can play a huge role in the NBA. The refs have a gigantic impact on the games sadly..


Ray's injury is also bad for the board - the trolls currently in hiding are just licking their chops waiting for a few losses they can blame on PP and whoever else they don't like - like Tony Allen or House or Scabs. Basically any of the players held over instead of their binkies.

Pinched nerves are so/so, hard to tell. Normally rest and meds or laser surg.

Pinched nerves in the cervical region:

Pinched nerve at C5 - This can cause shoulder pain, deltoid weakness, and possibly a small area of numbness in the shoulder. On physical exam, a patient's biceps reflex may be diminished.

Pinched nerve at C6 - This can cause weakness in the biceps and wrist extensors, and pain/numbness that runs down the arm to the thumb. On physical exam, the brachioradialis reflex (mid-forearm) may be diminished.

Pinched nerve at C7 - This can cause pain/numbness that runs down the arm to the middle finger. On physical exam, the triceps reflex may be diminished.

Pinched nerve at C8 - This can cause hand dysfunction (this nerve supplies innervation to the small muscles of the hand). Pain/numbness can run to the outside of the hand (little finger) and impair its reflex.

There was no way we were making it through this season without minor injuries here and there...I think it will be a blessing in disguise...House will def. step up tomorrow i'm not worried. Maybe leon will got a shot to show his stuff...

I have no problem with Ray Allen taking some time off. Rest him up...it's a long season and for teams like us only a high seed and the playoffs matter.

We should be able to handle the Bobcats without Baby and Ray-Ray.

Ray Allen did not practice today due to what he said was a pinched nerve in his neck. Coach Doc Rivers said Allen's status for tomorrow night's game against the Bobcats is uncertain. Allen said he has been having radiating discomfort in his right arm and hand for the last few days and even saw some discoloration in his right pinky finger. He had an MRI and a CT scan today. Allen was dressed in practice gear, but mostly rode the exercise bike during the Celtics' practice today. Allen said he first noticed discomfort in the neck area around five days ago, but has no idea what caused it. Rivers said Allen would play if the Celtics were in a playoff situation, so the ailment is not deemed to be too serious. Big Baby Glen Davis also sat out practice with a sore right knee. Rivers said he thinks Davis will be available tomorrow night. Davis, who suffered the injury Saturday night against Detroit, called his situation day-to-day.

The vast majority of trolling going on about binkies the last couple of years had to do with those who believed that Ainge was in love with binkies. A truly massive misjudgement of Ainge.

Given that the problem has been lingering for a few days, and he can't pinpoint when it happened, I wonder if it was something that resulted from the Odom tackle. He fell into the crowd back first with his arms out, and maybe he got his shoulder wrenched a bit and it pinched a nerve.

Certainly seems like a possibility.

Nope I was talking to my daughter who does..med student.

She also said there was other poss. cat scan was needed and mri also.
