I don't think Ginobili should be on the list given that he has been gimpy a bit too much for my liking and Melo should make the list before Marion in my opinion.

I am a fan of Jose Calderon but.... lol, he isn't an allstar... just noticed that just right now.

I'm a Raptors fan and love the attention Calderon is getting...but All-Star and "third best guard in the East" (as Hollinger declared him) is seriously overstating the case.

i am loving the pp pick because i think he deserves it, but i dunno where you can fit it but Brandon Roy needs consideration and so does Chris Kaman imo.

The East subs include 5 forwards, 2 guards, and no center. If I was building a team to win the game, I'd drop one of the forwards and add a real center. On the other hand, I can understand that the all-star nomination is more a reward for good play rather than an actual attempt at building a cohesive team.

But if you were really going up against Duncan and Yao, who would you rather have as your backup center: Josh Smith or Brendan Haywood? Take a look at the pace-adjusted per-40 stats:

Code: Select all

Player        PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  PER
smith,josh   20.7  9.3  3.9  2.2  3.7  3.9 .443 .512 20.7
haywood,bren 15.4 11.9  1.1  0.6  2.6  2.0 .540 .594 19.5

Of course, it's probably unfair to send 3 Wizards and no Hawks, so maybe Haywood should replace Jamison.

Oh yeah, Kidd should definitely go instead of Calderon.

Haywood is silently having a great year... I don't think anyone outside of Washington has seen what he has given night in and night out.

josh howard should go over marion or ginobili, imo.

calderon? 11 & 8 are not all star numbers.

Pardon my language but he gets a hard on with his PER stat....

It is a great stat, and useful but you can't use it as justification for a player playing just 28 mins as a legit allstar.

Hollinger is a stat guy, and Calderon's peripheral stats are ridiculous. Keep in mind, again, that I don't consider him an All-Star, but Calderon is basically Hollinger's wet dream: .580 TS%, top 20 in PER, best assist rate in the league (and best in six years), and on pace for what might be a historic season in ast:TO ratio (6.3:1 at the moment).

Calderon AS/TO can be the best stat of the NBA history to be honest, the record is owned by Bogges with 5.94 AS/TO +70 games

If Calderon had been starting all season his numbers would be around 15 and 10, surely they'd look much more appealing. Currently at 11 and 8, he'd probably get some backlash if he got in over a HOF'er like Kidd. But Kidd's offensive game has just been anemic this season, he's always made up for it with his assists and rebounding, but damn man, he's such a terrible shooter and inefficient scorer.

Hollinger is a fool I would love to see him even more fired then Coach Frank of the Nets but for him to not have any of the Big 3 in NJ make the allstar game is so damn funnyt.

If Jason Kidd and at least one of the other 2 RJ or VC don't make it then that's screwed up VC is putting up 22, 5.4 and 4.8 and the team is back to winning and will lead to a better record before the allstar game and he's been clutch as hell so I would take VC over Redd, Allen, Hamilton, Joe J, etc and if not VC RJ has been a beast 5th in scoring in the nba and the most FT's made and 2nd in attempts.
