Delfino's PT

Post#1 » by twistedude » Tue Jan 8, 2008 5:32 pm

As we know, Delfino has really been struggling with his game over the past few weeks. Do you see him winning back his PT any time soon? I'm talking a consistent 25-30 mpg like he was getting earlier in the season when he was playing great.

Thoughts?

I think his playing time will begin to rise equally with his FG% he'll be given a good 10 minutes a game to prove himself.

As a typical fan I thought the 3 spot was sealed good-to-go when we acquired him

He's gonna need a lot more than 10 MPG to prove himself. Those are scrub/garbage time minutes.

I can't understand why he's getting such a cut back in minutes.
He hasn't been playing great, but none of our wing players have been,
not just Carlos.
Particularly against Detroit, I couldn't understand why he wasn't getting
any time when Parker was playing so poorly.

It's a pretty simple equation. Delfino has played poorly so he hasn't stayed on the floor nearly as long most games.

Coaching 101 pretty much tells you that you should give the most minutes to the players playing best. In November, Delfino played great and earned more minutes. Unfortunately December he looked like the Delfino that Joe Dumars gave away last summer. I'm sure he'll come around.

December shooting percentages:

Kapono 50 fg/55 3fg
Parker 45/45
Moon 44/20
Delfino 36/34 (and 1/8 in January)

Not hard to pick out the biggest lemon in that group yet Delfino still got the same minutes he's been getting all season.

Delfino played 25 mpg in November and 25 in December. Parker played 29 mpg in December, Moon 26, Kapono 22.

From December 19-29, Delfino averaged 29.6 mpg.

His minutes have only really been cut back the past 3 games when he really went into a really bad tailspin (1-9).

The shots he was taking at the beginning of the season looked great because he was hot, but the problem is he hasn't really adjusted his shot selection when he's ice cold.

It's not like he's a shooter who should just keep shooting to break out of a slump (which is what he seems to think he is). He's a career 40% shooter, so he was performing way over his head at the beginning of the season (shooting wise anyways).

and thats what he's playing like, what I mean is he'll have the 10 minutes a game no matter what, but if hes playing well he'll get more if he's sucking no need to keep him in the game.
