Derek Fisher - best offseason free agent signing?

I can't think of any free agent that has played better with their new team.
Rashard Lewis was a trade acquistion and even if he wasn't I may rate Fisher ahead.0

Well to be fair, Fisher does not really count either, he was released by Utah so that he could treat his daughter in LA.

Utah really didnt want to get rid of him but they did the right thing which i think says alot about the organisation as awhole.

Good job Utah, and great pickup LA

well, we still desire some more defense from fish but its significantly better than smush. On offense, WHen fish gets the open look you can book it. Unlike parker who clanks it most of the time and becomes scared of taking the open shot after missing. What POS Parker was I want my 2 years back.

I don't think Fisher really counts because by all rights, he shouldn't have been a free agent. Utah let him out of his contract so he could get his daughter cancer treatment, basically knowing he would sign with the Lakers.

Grant Hill seems like a better choice IMO.

Regardless of whether he was cut, Fisher was still a free agent. To be fair though, I guess we can include a guy like Lewis who was an UFA and was a sign-and-trade.

Yeah, didn't think of Hill.

The vast majority of MLE-level signings don't pan out, it seems. Lakers finally got one to work. Usually when the Lakers sign an older guy they decide to lose about 21 steps in one offseason. See Mitch Richmond.

Grant Hill only because it is surprising he's actually played 6+ games without a season ending injury. Orlando should sue because they got straight robbed.

James Jones? Stats: 10pts, 3rbs in 22mins, while leading the league in 3pt% at 54%.

The Blazers have been winning consistently ever since he got back from injury. He's been great in spacing the floor and also providing much needed leadership for the young Blazers team.

edit: never mind. Jones wasn't technically a free agent signing.

When you look at the Laker's of last year and compare them to this year, and then realize Fish was the only major pick up. How could you not say Fisher was the signing?

If we're going by just numbers:

Lakers in 2006-2007: 22-11 after 33 games.
Lakers in 2007-2008: 22-11 after 33 games.

Suns in 2006-2007: 26-8 after 34 games.
Suns in 2007-2008: 24-10 after 34 games.

I think for the casual NBA fan who doesn't follow the Lakers, we would have to wait until the end of the season to decide. Reason being the Lakers were 26-13 last season with Smush Parker starting.

Obviously any Laker fan knows how much better this seasons team is when compared to last seasons. Bynum has been a beast in the paint and Fisher is head and shoulders above Smush **** Parker.

I still marvel at the greatness of Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant, that they were able to make Smush **** Parker into a serviceable NBA player. That may be the greatest accomplishment of their careers.

Grant Hill easy.

Look for Fish down the line to funk it up. I know Fish. He's a true POS....
Can't wait for his FG% to come back down to 30% as it should.
