Our defense has been terrible ever since Boylan has taken over. Its fine that we're playing a little on offense, and that the players are enjoying it more. But we're a team of jump shooters, and regardless of how we play, we are always going to be up and down on the offensive side..

.. which is why Boylan needs to get his act together on the defensive end. We used to be able to sneak victories even when we shot poorly because our defense was always strong. He has made some superficial adjustments to distract us with the offense, but the simple fact is we're a jump shooting team that will always go through slumps, which is why our defense needs to start being more consistent or we might as well call it a season and start scouting who we should draft..
Why so serious?

You cant blame Boylan yet. We have been in every game and the last 2 were basically without nearly 35pts from his roster. He gets a break here.

We still double too much which is part of the problem.

Looks like Boylan is more an offensive coach than a defensive coach like Skiles was. They have a couple days off they better be working on DEFENSE both days.

Ahh.. i don't know. Our record still isn't that great... sure we've played better than we have earlier in the season, but we arn't close to being as good as we were last year, or the year before, or the year before that.

I rather a good defensive squad, that is capable of playing consistent defense, game in and game out, over a offensive team that are going to have some cold games here and there. Most teams that win the Championships or win big games, are good defensive ball clubs, right now, we are a offense and no defense team.

Boylan needs to start working on the defense, and stop messing around with the offense and trying to please the players.

I think quite simply our starters suck. Duhon being a non turnover guy just isnt good enough. Guards have been murdering more this year than more because Kirk isnt doing as good a job as in the past. If the guards are playing better and we are still doing doubles in the post, we are at a major disadantage.

Well, the Bulls offense was basically last in almost every major category for much of the season. A team can't win like that.

....

On defense, there are a number of factors:
- As everyone has pointed out, the Bulls perimeter players collapse and help waaaaay too much and at the wrong time. Teams have figured this out and are waiting for drive and kick opportunities.
- Hinrich. He used to be able to take on opposing best backcourt player and make the guy's life very difficult. That basically hasn't happened this year. I am not sure I have ever seen this dramatic of defensive fall off for no apparent reason in a player.
- Interior help defense. I don't know if its by design or by accident, but the Bulls used to help with big men. Guys were constantly drawing charges or otherwise creating problems for penetrating players. Now, as soon as an opposing offensive player gets by his man, its a layup.

I think Hinrich is like Tyson Chandler. Hinrich got married in the offseason, now getting big money contract, and its affecting him.

So should we try him for Eric Snow, so he can become the next Steve Nash?

I only saw two games that is under Boylan on TV and from what I saw those two games which were the game against Portland and the Kings that the offense seem a bit of improving. I see less overdribbling and more ball movement. Even though I think the offense still need to work on a little bit like sent the right guy for the screens on the top of the key and I like to see Gordon move more with out the ball with screens on the low post like watch some footage how Rip Hamilton move with out the ball.

Oh and I want to see more cutters especially from Deng.

I forgot to mention about the defensive end on my early post. That yeah I didn't see much of a good defense. Even though I only saw two games that is under Boylan when he take over the defense isn't as good as it use to be and it seem like Boylan is focusing on offense.

I give Boylan sometime but he and the team better fixed that defense soon. The rotation is still bad they double up to much they leave the man wide open from the outside shot especially from the corners and so fourth.

I want to see more of a man to man defense, a little double team depend against who and depend on the situation. A bit of zone defense but also depend on the situation and the match ups. But I like to see more of a man to man defense. Rotate the defense better, don't overdue with help defense which can prevent leaving a man open for a shot especially on the corner. and etc.

The defense has been gone since the start of the season when Skiles was here it has nothing to do with Boylan it's the players I think that's why Skiles quit on them.

The perimeter players double down on every opposing big man like that guy is the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain. Why they do this when Ben Wallace is supposed to be this great defensive big man, I don't know...

Then they are unable to recover to their own man on the perimeter, leaving guys wide open. What amazes me is that they continue with this stupidity even when it's clear early in games that the opponent is killing them with this approach.

The defensive rotations have also been too slow this year, both on the perimeter and on the inside. Last year the Bulls were very good at help defense and rotating quickly. This year, not so much.

The Bulls do not seem to be putting as much pressure on opposing ballhandlers as they did last season. I think it would be good for the Bulls to try and do some full court pressure and trapping defenses in games. Try and force the other team into some turnovers.

The transition defense has been horrid. Usually only one man seems to get back, but even when more than one get back, it seems like they all run to the lane, rather than finding the shooters!
