perhaps you and I know those names and other people on this forum, but does the average fan understand the situation of the bucks? The ones who the organization lives and dies by with the average fan's ticket purchasing power?

I'd say anyone who takes even a cursory glance at realgm does, cause it's discussed on here to death.

What a pathetic windbag column by Begel who is not a sports reporter nor does he follow the team and he doesn't know the workings. He's instead using his column to attack Hunt (Hunt usually deserves it, this time the mark was missed) without offering an explanation for why Hunt ripped the organization wrongly.

The "average" fan couldn't care less who is in Kohl's "inner circle". And those names have been reported before, in the MJS and elsewhere. Begel acted like he had some great scoop.

Begel may have been moved more by irascibility than by righteous cause. But I think a journalist (if that term still applies to today's media) should have named the names. I didn't know all those Begel named.

Plus, I view the article as a counter to the J-S less than rigorous approach to reporting the story of the Milwaukee franchise. It's as if the J-S says, "You, Senator, are doing something for the Milwaukee community that financially makes no sense. We're not going to give you grief about it."

Sure, the Bucks have to endure the occasional critical article (which is very mild compared to the record) but the main pattern is benign neglect. They both belong to the Milwaukee power structure, and members have privileges.

Isn't Begel the guy Bart Starr went nuts after when he coached the Pack. Starr didn't hate many people, but I think Begel was one of them.

Begel wrote many negative columns about the Packers when he was on that beat for the Milwaukee Journal.....and would ask very tough questions in press conferences. Starr had him thrown out.

I supported Begel back then. The Packers were in the same mess the Bucks are now.......someone had to speak up to try and get things to change......

exactly...i don't get why he's getting bashed for outing some names that most people beyond this forum don't know...he's bringing to light that there's an attorney making player personnel decision that shouldn't be. He's getting out to the general public what everyone on this board is writing about on a daily basis and people seem to not be appreciative of his efforts

Beyond Majerus influence (which I thought stopped when Karl left) I had no idea the influence and the specific names of those other guys. I know Ron Walter and John Steinmiller (not personally) but I've heard things about their influence and roles in the decision making.

But I thought this was a great article. Whether he was just trying to grind an axe with Hunt is besides the point.

I think the fact that he's writing for onmilwaukee.com should speak volumes about his career path.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that writing for the milwaukee journal sentinel sports department isn't the most prestigious job in the world either...would you rather work for drew olson or gary howard?

Ron Walter is one of only 5 on the executive staff and is the alternate governor. Of course he has influence on Kohl. The Majerus/Kohl connection has been widely documented.

I hate the MJS sports department, they're boobs. And so is Begel.

I know you work there, it's nothing personal. I think they do a fine job on the Packers but the Bucks get screwed. Tom Enlund sleepwalks through his job and Charles Gardner is a soccer reporter. Garry Howard says he doesn't print "rumors" but the Bucks (and NBA) writing is so boring and generic.

Gary Woelfel is wrong many more times than he's right but at least he writes interesting articles and seems to care about the Bucks. When is the last time Enlund was on the radio talking about the team?
