OT - Rehashing an old idea - Childress anyone?
Doing some reseach for my fantasy league and I got to wondering about our old friend J.Childress. Would he be a good fit for us? My guess is yes, but how do we get him? He is a RFA from what I recall this offseason. Is there any chance ATL doesn't match or is willing to do a sign and trade?
Avg's 12 and 5 and 1 and 1 for the year. 23yrs old and is 6-8. He plays good D to boot.
1st in the league @ SF for FG%
3rd in the league @ SF for ORbs.
6th in the league @ SF for FT%
When he plays over 30 mins a game, he is a very good player and overall as well.

Any cap guru's know about ATL's situation?

I wouldn't mind Childress being on our squad, if we can get him for cheap without giving up to much then i'd go for it.. any type of rebounder would help this team
Atlanta has a projected payroll of $39.9M. They traded their pick to Phoenix so they won't have a high pick to tack onto their cap figure. Their cap figure does not include Josh Smith, Josh Chidress or Anthony Johnson, all of whom are free agents. Josh Smith will almost certainly be resigned. Interestingly, his cap hold is only $6.7M, which is likely to be less than his future salary. If Atlanta operates quickly, they may be able to grab a free agent before resigning Josh Smith and having to utilize his new salary for his cap number. Chidlress's cap hold is much higher: $10.9. His cap hold puts them over the cap. If the Hawks renounce Childress, their cap figure will be $46.6M, giving them $11.5M in cap space. If they sign him to a modest deal of about $4M, they'll have $7.5M in cap space. If they renounce both Smith and Childress, they'll have $18M in cap space.

He is an interesting player for the Raps to consider, perhaps as a guy to replace Anthony Parker on the roster.
I'm just not really sure how good he is.
naww man, i don't see him replacing AP.. if we don't get a good pickup in the 09 offseason I see Delfino being the person.. he just has to work on being consistent with his jumper and driving ability

He's a solid wing player but definitely nothing more then a compliment to the "premier" wing player we eventually need to find.
I'd also like to add that there is absolutely no way that I trade Calderon in a package for him. However, if our 1st pick was to be late, I would package a 1st rounder for him if Brandon Rush is off the table...considering that everyone worthy of a lottery pick was taken before him.

^^^ He is definitely underrated but I don't think he would have the impact on this team that merits a thread on him every few weeks.
If he was signed at the mid-level area then he would be a great pick up. I'd personally save that money and spend it on someone who is not labelled as "underrated" or "just waiting to break out" but rather for an impact player. I am not arguing that these two things would be incompatible but I'd invest energy on other players.
