Does Danny have exec of year locked up already?

Even if we have a first round upset and loss, it's pretty much a given that danny HAS to get exec of the year.

The raptor guy got it for turning the 5th worst team into a first round playoff loss team.

And danny turned the 2nd worst team, into a top 3 team record wise and hopefull further then first round in one season.

I think Danny is still the favorite. But I could see Kevin Pritchard as the darkhorse canidate. Depends on how the trailblazers finish off the year.

This thing is so locked up they might as well mail the trophy/letter (whatever the hell they give the winner) to Boston tommorrow. For what ainge was able to pull off this summer you could argue that its the greatest offseason in league history (provided we win the championship in June)

Prtichard has done a great job in Portland no doubt about that, but what Ainge has done is truly remarkable (you gatta take into account that he's been planning on this type of offseason for 4 years now).

Pritchard has gotten alot of things to fall his way with the draft (having Roy fall to 8 and Paxson basically giving them a 20 and 10 potential franchise big for the second coming of Stromile Swift). Not diminishing the job he's done just saying that its alot harder to trade for two of the premier players in game (who are still in their prime BTW) then it is to have high picks and simply draft guys. Not to mention jumping up to No. 1 in a year when a once a decade big comes along. (although this has no bearing on this year just pointing out that things have fallen Portland's way in terms of the draft the last few years)

Still a very good job considering the mess he inherited in Portland. Just not as good as Danny Boy!

McHale should win it. No person has helped the Celtics as much as McHale has done in recent years.

*Cringe* That'd better be a joke. I've been arguing with nearly every non-celtic fan about this garbage ... to have to go at it with a Celtic fan would be truly depressing.

I don't see why "making the finals" has any effect on EOTY... since the voting comes before the 1st round begins, doesn't it?

Hey, that McHale guy actually took Blount, Banks and Ricky off our hands, and then gave us KG. Give the guy some credit, he's a true Celtic, man.

I would say Ainge is the early favorite, but would throw these out:

1. The season is still young. If you guys finish with 70 wins, by all means give him the award. However, it is a long season.

2. Do you guys really think you were that bad last year and did it have anything to do with your GM trading Raef for a smaller contract? Would give Danny credit for turning a mediocre team into a contender though.

There may be a better argument in Portland if we win 50 games without Oden. As said, would say Danny wins now but think KP still has a shot at it.

I don't think making the Finals is a qualifier since the award is presented right after the regular season.

It's true we weren't as bad as 24 wins last season. But forget that: When's the last time a single team made 2 separate trades that each landed them a player who had been an allstar the previous year... without giving up any allstars themselves?

i dunno, but i'm guessing the answer to that is never.

still, portland has been amazing this season. KP has to get a lot of credit too.
