Celtics-Bobcats Post Game Thread - 1/8/08

Well, any time one of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, or Ray Allen is out; the Celtics have very little room for offensive error.

With Glen Davis also out, they need production from whichever Big Two are available (tonight KG & PP), plus two guards and Posey or Perk.

The Celts didn't get that tonight.

to say the bobcats are a poor team would be a compliment, but for some reason, they got our number. Everytime we play richardson is NEVER open and makes 70% of his shots..

add in the poor calls down the stretch, like when pierce completely didn't touch richardson but a foul was called and KG getting pullled down right in front of the official no call, and u can't win.

I blame this one On Tom Thibadeau. Why was Rondo pressing Felton? Why was he going over screens against Felton.? Why didn't we adjust our defense at all? Why didn't we try someone besides Pierce and Posey on Richardson. Why didn't we consider doubling. etc. etc. Our defensive gameplan just seemed really inflexible tonight.

we lack a good big man today and a steady pg. our pg's had a lot of stolen passes. we should try to strengthen up our roster in times like this when we need to rest guys. the cats scorched us whenever kg went out and we didn't have scoring and defense down low. i hope we make small moves that would make us more formidable.

anyways, it would've been different if ray and big baby played.

I have a more general impression on tonight's loss. It seemed like any time the Celtics were about to put together any momentum or continuity, Charlotte had the stars aligned to disrupt it. Plus there were a few officiating calls that were questionable at best that disrupted them. I think Charlotte did a great job of getting in the heads of our guys, and that's really why we lost.

He had a case tonight, though.

In any event, no Big Baby, no Ray Allen, bad officiating, we still should have won. Chauncey Billups still ends up looking like the smart one here.

They controlled the momentum and tried to make us beat em with jump shots. Defensively though I was just disappointed we let Mohammed get so many easy baskets.

And KG's tech in the final minutes is something we don't need to see. Its nothing we should see, ideally. He was our best player though.

I COMPLETELY disagree with this. Most of the league's teams has only two truly gifted offensive players anyways. Having Ray out really isn't a good enough excuse to be so poor offensively.

Still I think defense was tonight's biggest problem.

Agreed. The team as a whole had a poor game, except KG. Pierce waited too long to start slashing hard, whether he was drained from trying to guard a guy whos in the zone, i don't know. Bench gave nothing. The team just seemed dead today, didn't get going till the game was all but out of reach.

I agree with this.

The guard situation worries me. For example, the Detroit guards are too big for Rondo (and House) but anyone other than Rondo bringing the ball up is usually a problem.

That will be an issue in a 7 game series.

Absolutely. But the notion that there's very little room for offensive error because we have 2 superstars on the floor instead of 3 is a bit dramatic.

The refs were terrible at the end of the game but can't blame them...we played a bad overall game.

well this was by far the most disappointing game of the season.

probably a good wake up call tho. they completely mailed it in after the early 2nd. absolutely atrocious D. Pierce stunk it up. Nobody stepped up from the rest of the guys.

Silver lining: If we have 1 game like this every 33, we'll be ok.

I thought that we lacked defensive intensity. Their guys were catching the ball in the lane all night long. And since our offensive intensity usually comes from our defensive intensity, our offensive intensity sucked too. You can't have one without the other.

This was just a "blah" effort all around.

I guess the reality is that EVERY team in the NBA losses to a sub par team.

You can say the defense was bad (wasn't Paul's best night, let's put it that way - and I know Rich was hot, but jeez), but we didn't score any freaking points.

When you can't hit the broad side of the barn, that leads to transition baskets and open shots.

We STUNK offensively besides KG. Rondo stopped putting the ball on the floor and taking it strong, and Paul just didn't make shots or do what he's capable of.

What does this game mean? Nothing. Throw out the tape and play the next one like this abomination never happened.
