If Mcgrady is voted in, but can't play because of injury reasons, the coach (D'Antoni?) gets to decide who starts, it doesn't automatically go to the next highest vote getter.
Iverson will most likely have to be voted in by the coaches, which is likely but not a given considering the number of great guards in the West. You figure, Nash, Parker, and Paul are gonna make it (all on better teams). Baron has been playing great, and so has Roy. It all depends on how the coaches vote. Iverson certainly has a great case, but you can make a pretty strong case for any of the guys I just mentioned, and you have to figure at least one is gonna get left off (can't have 7 guards on the all-star team).

Hopefully the coaches can also look at it as Iverson will depart the league before someone like Paul, and may not get too many chances to play the ASG again - of course, Iverson has to have the case to belong there anyway. He's definitely helped Denver to a better record than they might otherwise have - and they are in better position than they could have been.

Roy
Baron Davis
Parker
Paul
Nash
A case can be made for all of them. Its a chance A.I. will be snubbed.

I think Iverson's name will give him the nod over Roy. Nash and Paul are locks for backups. But I would give Iverson next after them (just my personal opinion). At worst, I think you can make the argument its between Davis and Iverson because I think Parker is last on the list. As great of a season Roy is having, it hard to statistically he is better than AI.
Plus I don't know how much coaches take into consideration of the fans vote when determining reserves. Iverson is 3rd amongst western conf. guards so its clear the fans want him there. Probably a moot point though.

dude, the fans are going to vote Melo to start. what does the league have to do with that?
No, I was not referring to the FANS vote. I said the league would be FRAUD if they DIDN'T VOTE him IN.
And it has nothing to DO with MELO, I just said AI is more DESERVING to go to the all-star game then Melo.

If it has nothing to do with Melo, then why bring him up? Its not like Melo is taking AI's spot.
And to your point, the league can't have a 20 man all-star team, there are only so many spots, and only so many guards they can have on the team. If you stopped sucking AI's **** long enough, you might notice how great some of the other guards in the west are.
Parker, Paul, Nash, and Roy are all having great seasons, and are playing on better teams than AI. Baron is also have a very solid season, with the Warriors only a game or so behind the Nuggets in terms of records. At least one of these guys is gonna get left off the list. I don't think it will be AI, but I wouldn't fault the league if it was, because all of these guys are very deserving.
