Even the ASPCA published press releases warning about the practice, the risks it involved and the obvious cruelty to animals.

It didn't have to be real for society as a whole to become ever so slightly more aware that some people do some weird things sexually. Then you start to think of how many celebrities, politicians, etc have been exposed or connected to prostitution and that too becomes less extreme. Charlie Sheen, Hugh Grant, lots and lots... and what it is usually chalked up to is that they were either looking for something they weren't getting at home and that it was better than forcing husbands, wives etc into doing things they weren't comfortable with, it was better to find it somewhere else.

How many of you are aware that prostitution is completely legal here in Canada? It's only some of the activity surrounding prostitution that is illegal, in efforts to keep the streets appear clean, so to speak.

For some celebrities it might be the whole thing of, "I've already tried it all, I need something different." I don't get how people can get tired of too many women, but Eddie Murphy was a good example of that.

Well, escort services are a grey area of the law. You're just paying for their time, or paying to meet them - which is not unlike a dating service. And what happens between two consenting adults is not illegal. Of course, everyone knows what escorts are all about... but yeah.

How is prostitution legal here otherwise?

How many of us in our college days have done similar if not even more weird stuff.

The guy boned a chick "sodomy" style, and wanted to do guys...

Havent done the latter but we always stress that theres nothing wrong with gay people around here. Why is this any different?

I had no idea, Marv you sick bastard. While reading his wikipedia, two things came to mind, why is this topic covered so little? And I found some info that helps explain why Chuck and most commentators are such homers.

For over 30 years beginning in 1967, Albert was the voice of the New York Knicks on radio and television before being let go by the chairman of the MSG Network and Cablevision after Albert criticized the Knicks' poor play on-air in 2004.

The Knicks reportedly wanted Albert to accept a salary commensurate with his reduced Knicks schedule, but also weren't happy about Albert making what Knicks management felt to be overly critical comments about their team in spite of their losing record

Also news to me:

In addition to the Knicks, Albert had a lengthy tenure (beginning in 1965) calling the games of another Madison Square Garden tenant, the New York Rangers. He handled the radio call of the Rangers' Stanley Cup-clinching victory in 1994.

While on the subject of hockey:

Actress Pamela Anderson revealed that once she had to lock her father in the tour bus after he tried to steal the Stanley Cup.

In an interview with talk show host Jay Leno, the 40-year-old actress said that her father is a die-hard fan of ice hockey and once tried to nick the trophy so he could take it back to Canada.

"My dad tried to steal the cup when the Red Wings won in Detroit once. He was scaling the fence trying to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada where it belongs,

Amazing that Mike Fratello never countered Marv with any comments related to his past. Marv is a good commentator, but sometimes he annoyed me with his sly and rude comments on Fratello during games.

I'm not even talking about escorts or massage parlors... those ARE grey areas since they advertise one thing.

In Ontario - it is perfectly legal for one party to pay another for sex. What is illegal is advertising this publicly (posters, phone book, etc), soliciting in public (street walking), running a 'bawdy house' (brothel) and/or living off the avails of prostitution. So essentially you can't publicly advertise sex for sale, you can't be a pimp or madame and you can't support a location strictly from the income of sexual services.

Escorts can't advertise sex, but once you pay for companionship, you can negotiate sex - which is legal. Massage parlors can't advertise sex (other than that performed externally by hand) and to need to be licensed.

They are trying to change the laws so that it is not illegal to have an 'in call' location and to allow for groups of workers to be managed by one person or location (madame, etc), since it would actually make it much safer than traveling to some stranger's hotel room, house, etc and they could better filter out weirdos, do regular testing, etc...

Unless they want to change the laws to make prostitution illegal, then they really should remove some of the existing laws that actually make it more of a shady, unsafe industry than it would be otherwise. I'm not suggesting we set up a red-light district and allow bus shelter ads like in Vegas - but it's such a common thing historically that I think it's completely stupid for it to be pushed underground and criminalized. Better to legalize and regulate it for everyone's benefit.

I don't care. He's a good commentator. As long as he makes watching a game fun, I don't really care.

You are well informed and are generally right on the issue of public and private morality. But on a personal gut level I find the dude repulsive. I don't turn the games off, though I do wish there was someone else doing the game. There is a lot of talent out there. I see no need for him to be employed in this public capacity and wish it were not so.

My thought exactly. :D

How could you not know? It was plastered all over TV, radio and newspapers for months and then Marv was fired and it was assumed his career was over.

I remember when he went on Letterman after the fact and he had a good sense of humour about it.

BTW, Marv's wife is a Toronto girl who used to work for the Argos back in the day.
