San Antonio Signs Jeremy Richardson

Spurs Sign Jeremy Richardson
January 10, 2008 - 6:51 pm
RealGM Staff Report -
The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have signed guard/forward Jeremy Richardson. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The 6-7, 195-pound Richardson was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies on 12/20. He did not register a point in three games with Grizzlies and was waived on 1/7. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Richardson was with the Fort Wayne Mad Antz in the NBA Development League. He was averaging a league-high 28.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.63 steals in 41.5 minutes in eight games. The 23-year-old spent the 2007 preseason with the Miami Heat before being cut on 10/29.

This is the guy that got waived in favor of Penny Hardaway, who would eventually get waived in favor of easily the worst "specialist" in league history. WOW! Why do I get the feeling that he'll turn into an awesome addition to the Spurs in the coming years?

He actually suprisingly didn't do too bad when he was with the Heat. DQ stepped up a few games in the preseason and i guess they wanted another veteran player (Penny).

I honestly don't know what is going on with the Spurs... honestly what is the use... they are going to cut him in 10 days. I think they just like giving 10K checks to people.

Riley can avenge a mistake by picking this guy up again and dumping that Luke character. Dude just flat out sucks.

I really like Jeremy and wish him the best. The Spurs will be a good fit for him and I hope he can find away to stay around the league for a few years. He's a hard worker and I have have only heard good things about the young man.

He is supposed to be a shooting specialist but is shooting a lower percentage than Walker who drove Riley crazy for attempting so many threes. However, Riley seems content with Luke shooting threes despite his low level of efficiency, since he is supposed to be a "pure shooter." I find that ironic.

I wouldn't look too much into it. Spurs are trying to find that shooting spark off the bench that Barry gave us. Once Barry returns from injury he'll be waived if not sooner.

1. Bowen was NOT a scrub with the Heat. It is where he made a name for himself in this league.

2. Bowen signed a FA deal with the Spurs. He was never waived by Miami.

You are right. BB got waived by the Sixers, got into the All-D teams with the Heat and then the Spurs signed him. Facts mixed up. :banghead:
