Ford A Month From Returning??

Let me get this straight, the guy misses one month and needs another entire month to get back into "game" shape?

if hes been cleared to practice shouldnt he be able to return in a week or two tops?

Ive seen athletes return from injuries all the time, ive seen hockey players return from concussions in a week.

Yes it really is psychological, but newsflash for you...hes gona have this condition his entire life.

I think its understandable with his medical history that TJ wants to be 99.99999% certain that there is no chance that he re-injures himself and ends up permanently paralyzed.

The issue goes beyond just sucking it up and playing through an injury. TJ has to be certain that the possibilty of permanent paralysis is minimized.

Otherwise, he'd be best to retire and put millions of dollars in the bank.

You have to understand that the issue TJ is grappling with involves his fear that he could take a bad fall again and end up as a parapeligic or quadrapalegic.

According to the way most of you think, he might not even return this season...being paralyzed is extremely serious.

It's obvioulsy mental at this point and anyone in his situation with an ounce of common sense would be going through the same feelings at TJ right now.

Besides if I'm the Raps I want to TJ back 100% just in terms of his value going forward

Just to clarify, its the Sun saying Ford could be out another 4 or 5 weeks and that's not a direct quote from the Raptors.

Who knows? Maybe he returns sooner.

Either way, it doesn't bother me. I think that rushing a player back early usually results in bigger problems down the road.

When dealing with the potential for paralysis I do not think that some should necessarily hurry and "suck it up".

Why not imagine for a minute that you don't live at home with mom and dad and are instead an athlete grappling with the potential for paralysis. You cite concussions and hockey players as an example - most of which were absolute shadows of their former selves after suffering them - Lindros playing scared did not suit his game, any more than TJ not using his quicks and not attacking the paint would suit his game. We need TJ back physically and mentally PERIOD.

personally, i doubt that it will be a month. i think that this kid has bball in his veins. once he's back on the court, he will gain that confidence. then he'll be back with his teammates and things will move quickly from there.
to be honest, i wouldn't be shocked if he's on the bench for the Blazers' game. i don't expect it, but it wouldn't shock me.

I think this will be the case as well. As soon as he hits the court, along with some mentoring from Lucas, I think it will be hard for him to keep himself out of the game.

And to be honest, even if he needs an extra couple of weeks, who cares? I want to see this guy in peak form for the stretch drive and the playoffs because that's when we'll need him most. I have full confidence that the rest of the team can keep it moving in the meantime.

So basically you're saying, "come back now or retire"? No middle ground? No "give me a few weeks rehabbing to get my confidence back"? This is a guy that has the ability to play basketball at a speed faster than you drive. To play at TJ's level you have to have full confidence in yourself and your body. He doesn't have that right now. To throw him in the fire and make him play while he is still feeling overly cautious would most likely lead to another injury. I don't know why you wouldn't want him to take as much time as he needs to come back.
