Also, I think I would have spent 6 paragraphs trying to spit out what you just crammed into two.

Flip and Collins were the guys we were targeting as our coach right? I remember Flip basically waiting out Larry Brown, at which point we probably didn't have a chance at getting him.

I'm not clear if Collins was meant to be coach+team president or just run the front office. Anyone remember?

Collins was plan A, Flip was plan B, and Stotts was plan C (kind of).

Flip never actually expressed any interest in coming here and we never really talked to him, but Kohl just assumed he would want to come here if the Collins thing fell through. Great assumption there, Herb.

Kohl was going to relinquish his President of Basketball Operations title and give it to Doug Collins, with Larry Harris staying on as GM to be the R.C. Buford to Collins' Popovich.

Collins was going to be the head coach of the team to begin with, and Terry Stotts was to be hired as his Lead Assistant. The idea of giving Stotts the "Associate Head Coach" title that a few upper echelon Lead Assistants have been given in recent years was being considered too, but regardless, Stotts would have been the top assistant coach. The plan was for Collins to be the head coach for the first 2 or three years, and then he would leave the bench, remain as POBO, and Stotts would get promoted to Head Coach.

Things really fell apart when Collins decided not to accept our proposal. Flip ended up not being an option as he was assuming he'd get the Pistons job, so we ended up just going with Stotts as Head Coach right off the bat.

I got a way to defend it. Bring a bat to the game and kill one of them."

EDIT: I still think that D has this type of game in him. It's just the fact that our offense is based on the half court....which still boggles my mind. This team CAN run!! BUT...in order to run, we have to defend on the perimeter and force long rebounds. Talent there...

I agree with most of what you are saying other than Van Horn. Thomas clearly out played him upon his return after the trade and even when Van Horn was healthy during the play-offs, he fell back into his normal disappearing act.

Van Horn was not healthy in that playoff series against Detroit. He had plenty of faults, no question, but the guy was playing some terrific ball before he got hurt. I think a lot of people have forgotten that. He was giving the Bucks a strong scoring option behind Redd and a good rebounder to support Smith and Skinner in the frontcourt.
