Jay: Bulls need real coach, great player

The teams failure to meet expectations this year had me feeling impatient and wanting them to make a move. Then I sat back and looked at the roster. This team is still young and still has players to develop. Now I am more impatient at their inability to play Noah, Thabo, and TT. It is time to committ to youth and play them. This teams window is in two years.

Me too. I'm all about having an elite coach and a superstar player on the team. And my wanting it to happen totally means that it could happen.

I honestly thought that Noah and TT would get 20 minutes when the season started. I could not believe that they could not get time together. I think Noah would get 3 assists a game just playing with TT.

Everything he says is typically cliche half-truths designed to give the most negative light on a situation possible. If someone actually followed Mariotti's advice (in any sport) their team would be an absolute train wreck.

Should we pursue McGrady? I don't know, I don't see how you trade for a guy who's said he's going to retire in 2 years. We're highly unlikely to win a title in the next 2 years even if McGrady stays healthy for us. Given how rich he already is, how chronic his problems are, and how injured he always is, I think it's pretty easy to believe he's serious as well.

Should we trade for Pau Gasol? If the price has gone down enough then I would say yes. However, people have really put Gasol on this pedestal that isn't really an accurate depiction of his play. He'd be a perfect piece to fit on our roster. He wouldn't be a guy who's so good you trade 2 of the good pieces on your roster to get though. Plus, I'm not sure what memphis would realistically want from us. If a deal could really be centered around Nocioni and one of our young big men then we'd be crazy not to do it. If we're back to the Deng + Tyrus + a pick type stuff then no, it doesn't help us any.

Getting a good coach is Paxson's plan, but the assertion that we should hire the best coach in a period with few options and then stick with him for 3-4 years isn't. We're SO much better off waiting until the off season to have the greatest pool of candidates available in order to make the right hire. This guy is going to be around for probably 3 years at a minimum. Even if you consider Boylan a D- as a coach, you don't hire a C+ now when you might get a B in the off season.

I don't know why I wasted time reading snippets of a Mariotti article or replying to his points. That's why he sucks you in, just to get you to yell at him.

I didn't read what Jay had to say, I just looked to see who posted, then read their response.

Based off of what Doug had to say I am sure that Jay cried about wanting a star, and about pax sitting on his hands while KG went to the celts.

We NEED to do something because I believe we are going to loose Gordon.

We need to try and make a move. I would look at Gasol, but a package for Gordon and Noc with fillers for gasol and his fellow countryman might not be the best choice.

I believe we should play like the Heat, and keep building through the draft.

I guess it all depends on what entertains you has a fan. If its high flying dunks and razzle dazzle passes and all that stuff, then this team would be considered as being very boring. However, winning entertains me. When the team can go out and effectively execute a gameplan, that tends to be entertaining and fun to watch for me personally. The best team this decade has also been considered to be "boring". Yet, you have to appreciate the way that they play the game. I tend to agree with the poster that stated that its not about finding a star player, but the right player. Just give me someone that is going to fit and ultimately make this team better. I really dont invest too much into the whole star player thing.

also, i just would like to watch new players, realizing that this group has no chance at a future title as designed. and i would rather watch players who can get to the hoop, not necessarily to dunk the ball.

I wasnt implying that YOU like that. I was speaking in general. It just happened to be in response to your post. My primary point is that the NBA is at the professional level of basketball. Thus, the game should be played in a professional manner. And true basketball fans that know how to appreciate good basketball typically find offensive and defensive execution to be more entertaining than fancy passes and thundering dunks. Thats not to say that I dont like those things. It certainly doesnt take anything away from the game. I just tend to appreciate the game in its purest form.

With that said, it all makes little difference because as it stands now the Bulls arnt entertaining in any facet of the game. They dont make big plays in big situations and the have had horrible execution on both ends of the floor. So for that reason, I agree with those that say this team is boring. I just think that my reasoning for it is a little different. I dont think that getting a superstar player is going to make the Bulls any more entertaining as long as they continue to lose ball games.
