Replacement for Rasho for next draft, Nicola Pekovic.

Post#1 » by cdcastellon1 » Fri Jan 11, 2008 7:19 pm

Expecting we will be able to choose between #15 pick and #25 pick in the next draft, what we can bring to the Raps? If we follow the European way, i would choose Nikola Pekovic, why ?

He is ranked atm #24 Draftexpress and #30 in Nbadraft.net ,but he will improve his position due his fantastic season in the euroleague ( way better than Danilo Gallinari and Nicolas Batum TOP 10 picks for Nbadraft.net and Dx in the next draft) He is ranked as Third best player in the global Ranking with a very impressive numbers for a younger, 18ppg 57% FG, 8,8 rpg

Pekovic is a 6-11 pure Center that would bring some agressive and strenght to our well know "soft" team ( bosh, bargs and rasho are not very strong dudes tbh )

I give you some links if anyone is interested in the development is this dude, imo he would fit very well in this team.

I think he's a very nice player. 6'11, very powerful for his size. Reminds me a bit of Big Baby from the Celtics..

He's dominating the Euroleague centers, because of his overwhelming size..however, when he comes over he won't be the biggest guy, or even close to the biggest guy...

He's got a frame of Big Baby or Jason Maxiell..

his skills are average, he's got nice post moves, no jump shot, he's a good rebounder but lacks the hops for blocking shots..

overall, he's a very solid pick in the late 1st round or early 2nd round...

if we have a pick down there i'd pick him, but knowing BC's system, he probably doesn't wanna bring in a guy like that...

i don't know anything about these euro guys. if he's tough and can play then why not? toughness is priority.

usually these late round euros tend to be more reliable than these next dirk early round euros anyway.
Sam wasn't the solution, but he wasn't the problem either

I think Nikola is going to have some trouble adjusting to the bigger physicality and height of the NBA.

But, I believe he'll find a good role as a solid backup centre/spot starter.

No more Euros. Please.
I think we should try to trade our way into the Top 10 pick.

Yes. We need more players like Darrick Martin, Joey Graham, Juan Dixon and Maceo Baston. Our bench is getting cold in some spots.

Ignorant dumba$s!!

Why bother with the best available talent? We should use affirmitive action for our draft now or better yet each year the Raptors should have their own lottery and randomly select a race, or religous sect, or nationality or sexual preference and only draft the type that is selected... So maybe next year we'll all be praying there is an Australian, Muslim gay pygmy entering the draft or we could be in trouble....

This is unreal. Just unfooking unreal. I dont't give a flying fook to a rolling donut whether the guy is black, white, brown, yellow, or purple. Is it too much to ask for the best player?

There is so much ignorance on the board today. Is it a full moon or something?

Yeah thats what I was thinking from the writeups and the footage from YouTube I saw. I mean he looks like a good postup player but DX has his weakness as "defensive potential" and he plays a halfcourt style of play. I wouldn't take him in the top 15-20 I would see maybe as a 2nd round pick. I would love to trade up for Hasheem Thabeet or Danilo Gallinari I am not sure what we would have to make such a trade unless we are trading Calderon or Ford + our pick. I would also say that Calderon wouldn't really go this offseason since he's avarging 8 apg and leading the league in assist to turnovers

Yea, I agree with you, I'm not really too big on taking him even with a pick in the 20's.

I watch a fair bit of Euroleague ball, though not so much of Pekovic. He's a bully down low, but I don't think that translates all to well in the NBA. He'll have a role here, I don't think he'll be a bust. He doesn't have a really great attribute to seperate himself. His strength is his biggest asset. He isn't particularly long which limits his ability to contest shots. To be fair, he's really tearing up the Euroleague which is no easy feat.

I can't really think of anyone to compare him with in the NBA right now. Maybe a little bit like Okafor on offence. I'm reaching for straws here though.

He's pretty much the definition of low-risk-low-reward.

EDIT: Oh, and the guy I'm hoping we can nab right now is Gallinari. Hopefully we can get Maurizio to talk to him about how it would be perfect here, heh.
