Orlando-Golden State Trade

Post#1 » by RJM » Fri Jan 11, 2008 1:18 pm

Trade ID #4402465

Orlando - Pat Garrity/Carlos Arroyo/2nd Rounder
Golden State - Mickael Pietrus/Matt Barnes

Orlando - Get two athletic and talented shooting guards that play on both sides of the floor and address the SG depth issue.

Golden State - They get to bolster their frontcourt offensively by landing a three point specialist in Pat Garrity and address the backup PG need in Carlos Arroyo.

Both - All four contracts are expiring so there isn't much loss/gain capwise.

Orlando

PG - Jameer Nelson - Keyon Dooling
SG - Mickael Pietrus - Mo Evans
SF - Hedo Turkoglu - Matt Barnes
PF - Rashard Lewis - Brian Cook
C - Dwight Howard - Adonal Foyle

Golden State

PG - Baron Davis - Carlos Arroyo - Troy Hudson
SG - Kelenna Azubuike - Monta Ellis - Marco Belinelli
SF - Stephen Jackson - Brendan Wright
PF - Al Harrington - Austin Croshere - Pat Garrity
C - Andris Biedrins - Patrick O'Bryant - Kosta Perovic

Pat Garrity "bolsters" no one's frontcourt ;)

Seems to me the Warriors get the worst of a Barnes/Garrity swap AND a Pietrus/Arroyo swap. It's good that all deals are expiring, but I doubt a late 2nd rounder is enough to offset the difference.

So we give up the 2 best players by far in this deal and all we get back is a late 2nd rounder? No thanks.

Make it a first rounder and we'd listen, however.

Pietrus/Arroyo is fine.

But Barnes is clearly better than Garrity.

So the Warriors pass.

Warriors definitely pass, even though, arroyo fits the no D philosophy nellie uses. The warriors are not giving up 2 athletic rotation guys for a slow footed pg and a guy who hasn't played a meaningful minute in nearly 2yrs, and has a trade kicker. you could make the pick a 1st rounder and it doesn't make it pallatable.
