Was at the game tonight...
"U-g-l-y...you ain't got no alibi..."
Where to start?
- The Sixers half-court offense with our "starters" simply blows. In many sets, our best option is Andre Miller creating something. Not good.
- A tidy 21 and 20 by Sammy...I remember sometime during the 3rd quarter thinking that he had quite a few rebounds. Damn. We better not trade him - right now he's one of the only NBA-worthy players we have.
- Nocioni may be a dirty player, but he's also a pretty good player. Thad got schooled tonight...but he's a smart kid - hopefully, he'll watch the videotape and learn. He needs games like this to get better.
- Unless Iguodala sucks it up and starts strapping it on, I think it's gonna be hard to bring him back next season. Stefanski won't give him anywhere near $57 million...or he'll give it to somebody else. I think that dond nailed it right on the head - good defender (but a bit overrated, watching Nocioni get into his head)...decent stand-still jumper, GREAT finisher...but with ZERO finesse with the ball in the half-court. At least twice, he tried to dribble to the basket tonight, only to lose the handle and either turn the ball over or get an offensive foul. Too much looking for the officials (either whining or looking to get bailed out)...on one fast-break, Lou threw the ball away trying to hit Iggy on the wing, and Iguodala got this exasperated look on his face...no going over to pick the guy up...no going over and pointing out (nicely) how they could have run the play better...just looking up in the air in frustration.
Way to be a leader, bro.
Stefanski really has his work cut out for him. To me, the decision to keep Miller is MUCH easier than the decision of what to do with Iguodada if this is what we see from him for the rest of the season...and if we trade Miller, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see Iggy improving his game enough for the rest of the season to say, "Don't sweat it, Iggy...here's your $57 million..."
(after all, BK isn't here anymore)
While I do recognize that - this game aside - there is some good young talent on this team, there just aren't many pieces that really fit together. It is VERY hard to see Iguodala as anything better than a Bruce Bowen/Raja Bell SG right now...on this team, there is a chance that Thad could be our best long-term option at SF, and I don't want to give Iggy $57 million to be a slightly-better Bruce Bowen or Raja Bell (I am stretching it a bit here, but hopefully you hear where I am coming from).
I think the keepers are:
Sammy
Miller
Williams
Young
Smith
Obviously I would hope that they can keep Evans (as the high-energy guy coming off the bench) and move Green, but it will probably turn out that of the two, Evans will be more marketable (damn). The consensus is that we get Iggy resigned, and add one high-impact guy in FA and a lottery pick...but (unless Iggy's game really picks up) I think that you really have to entertain the possibility of something like a sign-and trade - which would dramatically expand the possibilities between now and next season.
And I gotta keep thinking about those possibilities, 'cause right now this team makes me want to hurl.
