CHRON: Trade Rumors Keep McGrady In Stitches

Post#1 » by Baller 24 » Sat Jan 12, 2008 2:22 pm

Houston Chronicle -
During his respite from the Rockets due to a knee injury, Tracy McGrady has been enjoying the comedy stylings of NBA writers and bloggers. Quite entertaining.

Every time McGrady reads his name involved in trade rumors, he cannot help but chuckle.

"I sit back and I laugh because it's real funny to me," McGrady said.

General manager Daryl Morey hasn't fielded any phone calls about McGrady and certainly hasn't made any.

McGrady squelched any thoughts he is starting them.

"There was a rumor that I said I was unhappy here and I wanted to go to Chicago and I never said anything about Chicago, or anything about being traded," McGrady said. "This happens when teams are trying to make deals and they throw names in there. It is what it is."

All Mac has to say so shut this down is..."Do you see how well my team is playing without me? Why would I want to leave this? Imagine what we can do when I come back."

"I think if you look at our schedule and some of the teams that we've been playing, it hasn't been the Dallases and San Antonios," McGrady said. "Although we have been playing extremely well, I think more so our schedule (has been) in our favor.

"It'll be interesting to see when we face those teams, if I'm not playing

He's right of course, but he should've kept his mouth shut. The man is often spot on, but there are things you should keep to yourself. This is one of them.

Yeah McGrady talk way too damn much :D

But seriously, it'd be extremely stupid to trade McGrady on our part. His value is at an all time low and the fact remains we are still a win now team and that he's a legit 25/5/5 player, we'd get no where near equal value for him.

Mac is right...but he dam sure shouldnt have said that. His team is playing well regardless of who they are playing. Nobody here or on that team thinks they can beat the good teams without him...he shouldn't have said what he said. Seems pretty bitch like to me.

u have to see the video where that quote was taken. he complimented his team LIKE CRAZY earlier before the quote.

it's just when the reporter asked him straight up: people think the team plays better without you ON the court completely (basically saying they don't need you). and the schedule plays a HUGE part.

Yeah can definitely see where you are coming from, but if McGrady was fully healthy, then there'd be no point in trading him.

We wouldn't accept McGrady for Gordon or even Deng even at this point IMO. That's why any McGrady deal is pretty much unrealistic, his value is at an all-time low and for what he does on the floor, no way we get equal value.

Just for the people who don't read Fran's blog.

[True or not, as a so-called leader, you don't put down the accomplishments of your teammates. If I'm not mistaken, with McGrady, the Rockets have lost to Memphis (10-25), Miami (8-28), Sacramento
(14-20) and Philadelphia (14-23). --Fran]

Here is the link to the interview. I think you'll get a better sense of context of where this quote is taken from. My take is that he is happy that everyone is picking up slack during his absence, and he is cautiously optimistic about the team's progress. It just sounds he is putting his teammates down if you are looking the quote in isolation.
