What was the best Raptors dunk of all time?

Post#1 » by peteyjones13 » Sat Jan 12, 2008 8:20 am

I think this would be interesting to discuss. Maybe someone could even make a thread with like 16 of the best dunks, and pit them against each other in a tournament decided by our votes similar to the way the best raptor of all time was decided.

Some dunks I think could be nominated.

Keon Clark's dunk over Shawn Bradley in Dallas

Mopete, a rookie off the bench's dunk in game 6 against Philly

JYD's and 1 dunk in the same playoff series over Mutombo, after which he practically jumped into the crowd high-fiving everyone.

Vince's dunk in his rookie year against Indy.
Vince's ridiculous alleyoop dunk in L.A against the Clippers.

A lot more Vince dunks.

Joey's dunk last year over Zo in Miami.
Joey's dunk last year over Delfino.

Truth is there's like 50 Vince dunks that can be nominated.

TJ's dunk in Minnesota last year.

I have to go with this though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2To5ZUsXu4 Fast forward to 2:35, and be sure to watch the replay. That, I'm going to say was the best Raptors dunk of all time

Vince's 25th best dunk would still be better than anyone else's we've had. The guy was the widely acknowledged as the best in NBA history at it, I THINK he'll top the list for the Toronto Raptors.

Keon Clark over Shawn Bradley wasn't really a dunk.. he did jump pretty high though.. My top memorables were Vince over Mutumbo (back when Mutumbo was the block master), and Vince under and around the basket reverse jam in Indiana, and Vince over Duncan (almost jumped over him). This year, it has to be Moon's cockback dunk.. (but dun rembr who it was against).

You could easily pick half a dozen of Vince's. Some personal favourites: The Clipper alley-oop, the alley-oop windmill from Corliss against the Cavs, the monster tomahawk over Ben Wallace, the one handed put back over Zo (was in one of his last years), the two handed crowning of Theo Ratliff....

Speaking of Theo, Bosh had a pretty sick one on Theo Ratliff in his first year.

The best in game dunk would be Vince's double pump reverse two hander against the Pacers. Can't remember what year that was.

Haha, oh man, i still get goosebumps watching some of these and can't help but laugh in disbelief and shake my head.

It was awesome when the home crowd would be cheering on Vince when we were the visiting team.

It'd be nice to have those years saved onto dvd's.

Sad to watch those and than watch current day Vince.

He is a shell of his former self.

Best dunks I ever saw on tape or live were in Vince's 1st Charity game.

Crazy stuff between him and Shamond Williams.

Vince Carter
BUTT.. when Jamario Moon wins the Slam Dunk Contest he could claim that first spot..
Ever since Vince Carter left the raps you dont see that explosiveness anymore or attacks the rim and makes some wild things

Both of my choices are in that vid.

#2: Vince over Mutombo

#1: Reverse double clutch against Indy.

I think the Indy dunk is my favourite Raptors dunk

I remember watching that Clipper game and boy do I miss that intense look VC used to have on his face his first couple of seasons before he got bored. Even when he was smiling his eyes would keep that intensity. The best part of the Clipper dunk was as soon as Oakley threw it to half court you could hear the intense rumbling starting to explode when the crowd realized VC was at the basket.

That was his best dunk ever because in the context of the game it totally deflated the Clippers and led to Carter's buzzer beating shot.

I remember exactly when that happened. The game wasnt televised in Toronto so I, naturally, listened to the game on the Fan. Chuck was calling the game and the arena went absolutely insane after Carter did that dunk. I think it was his first dunk when people noticed Carter, and was a sort of 'welcoming party' to the league. The fans were still buzzing for several minutes after that dunk, and obviously chuck was going nuts as well. I think I've got less attachment to it because I didn't get to watch it live as it happened on TV and heard it on the radio first.

So, I think I'll have to go with the slam on mutumbo, or his alley-oop in LA. But there's wayyyy too many to really pick one that stands above the rest. It's like picking your absolute favourite song from your favourite band or artist, it's pretty difficult.

Jamario moon is nice and all, but no way jamario moon passes him as either the best dunker or comes up with a better dunk than vince did.

I would agree with those two...the one on Tim Duncan would be a close third

lol no he can't. Jamario Moon doesn't create anywhere near the kind of explosiveness and excitement that VC did.

Lets note that Moon does something Vince refused to do....play defense.

Moon isnt the sharpest pencil in the box and may have his brain explode with all the attention.

For those of us that saw Vince live, Moon isnt even close.

Return to Toronto Raptors
