However, I would still take Bill Walton in a heartbeat because he is also positive as hell and cracks me up. even if he doesnt know **** about basketball any more.

I would watch games on mute if Bill Walton was commentating a game with Boston... only one I would listen to is lakers vs boston... you can tell hes so biased with those two teams.

With good reason. He played his best games with Boston, and his son plays for the Lakers.

I love how he acts like his son isn't even playing. A few times you'll hear him say something like, "bad decision throwing to Walton there, he can't make that shot"... all while his son was leading the league in 3pt percentage.

The (2) commentators last night for the Lakers/Bucks game on ESPN was Breen & van Gundy?

I'm assuming van Gundy was the one who kept telling the other commentator to stop saying Kobe has a respiratory inflammation. If so, that was awesome...it sounded like he really got pissed at that guy for mentioning it so many times.

JVG was a no BS coach (see Bonzi Wells incident), and it looks like he's a no BS commentator. Kobe being sick is fine, but bringing it up over and over again is martyring a guy who doesn't deserve it. Plenty of guys play sick and hurt. JVG made an awesome (and ballsy) move to call Breen out on that.

thought it was JVG who was talking about the respiratory inflammation

You know whats really sad about this situation. JVG is great and probably the best analyst but Breen is one of the worst play by play guys. Put JVG with Czar and Marv and it would be the best thing going.

I am hoping Minnesota throws some money at him. He is only 46 or so. He is a great coach.

Same here. The other commentator was like "hey, you're going into dangerous route Jeff."

i love what he had to say about the bucks. they obviously don't have the right group together, and won't be a better team without some changes. for instance, they have two score first guards. they really need to trade one of them, and get a real point guard that actually wants to get assists, or has the ability to do so.

i love what he said about kobe. the reason why they are a much better team this year, is players around him have developed, and so now he is passing the ball, giving them more confidence. when he went on that crazy scoring binge in the first, it took the rest of the team out, and really thats been his problem since day one. glad jvg said it because its true, but he also didn't say it in a negative mocking way some announcer do when you can tell they hate his guts.

but his humour is off the charts. his bit about nicole ritchie having a baby. i didn't know that until he said. i'm not sure if its true, but i'll check perez later today. " do you know what band her boyfriend plays for? ....good charlotte .... i got it from US weekley" lmao!

and he has great insight on defence. he basically sad the bucks suck at it, don't have any toughness, but didn't come off like a buck hater, but rather someone who cared for them, saw they had talent, but pointed out a coach can only do so much in practice, and you either have toughness on the court or you don't. makes me kinda sad for the raptors.

i love what he said about the bizarre second unit phil jackson put out in the first half i think. he said something like "they aren't any good".

i have never heard an announcer say something like that. flat out said the second unit is bad, but he pointed it out, by saying jackson likes to leave units in to figure out their problem. at the time, i think farmar was the only real offensive power in that lineup.

but when breen said thats a bit harsh, he's like "well its true.!" still don't get why jackson had them out that long without a starter to let the bucks back into the game - i'm not even a laker fan, but i was shocked he said it. we need more guys like that. sometimes you need to jolt fans into really understanding the game, and stop being in love with backups.

why the hell did houston let him go again? there's a reason why they don't fit adelmen's system. they don't have any real scores after yao and tracy, so JVG got the best out of them by playing great defence. you gotta to know your personnel as a coach, and JVG did.

JVG's definitely my favorite announcer, with Hubie Brown a close second. JVG's humour is great, I think he could be a stand up comic.

hubie bothers my ears sometimes. i find myself yelling at my screen, asking him to stop talking...he goes on and one!

he's overly critical without any sorta of praise for teams. ya sure, some teams don't have a great slasher, for example, but even if that teams is 12 games over .500, everything is so negative, he sounds like he talking about a team 20 games under .500.

breen isn't good, but he is far from the worst. listen to some of the broadcasters for local channels, like the FSN channels around the country etc. 99% of them are pure homers. breen at the very least is objective, gives both teams props and -never- puts down players in a personal way, something a lot of the local broadcasters do.

now, the way breen always defends the officials for horrible calls is another story....

^^ No Hubie is the man. Sure he talks a lot but he tells me A LOT about basketball that I never knew. He's like the old high school retired coach now history teacher who likes to talk about the game.

I think he's excellent

Like with TNT and some of their guys, aside from the game itself, a reason why I'll watch the game is because of him announcing.

I miss Tom Tolbert.
