If the Bulls made the ECF no one here would be able to see it. Because the entire board would drop dead of simultaneous heart attacks.
As far as John MacBeth Paxson's reaction, I think he'd stick with the roster even if they lost a 7 game series in the 1st round. He's fallen in love with his draft picks (a critical mistake). It's partially our fault too, because our fanbase has been way too kind to Pax in general.
Number 5's magic touch is wearing off. If they can't find a way to salvage the season, his head should be on the chopping block too.
if the bulls make it to the ECF this year as is...

right here, though i'm gonna disagree, and here's why;
from a business standpoint, unless the team had been an abject failure for at least 3 years (see boston celtics), then there's no way to justify putting him on the "chopping block".....way, way too many gm's are gainfully employed with worse track records than JP.
also, the evaluation period for having a core group and seeing them jell is just about at it's peak now; 3-4 years to see what direction the team is going in before determining what flaws you have and how to address them. throw in the curves that occured with the unplanned purging of 2 young and talented bigs in curry and chandler, and we are where we are.
now, taking into account the team got to the first round twice and the second round once, UNLESS a blockbuster move, a championship roster changing move presents itself it's logical from a business and managing standpoint to stay the course. that's what we've seen. for all the "he needs to grow some balls" rancor, if you look about the league, teams stick with groups, particularly with groups that have shown they can win games together, a minimum of 3 years.
with the expectation to go further, adding an athletic big who's the BPA, albeit it was a conservative move, was the move to make.
however, in this the fourth year, with the way negative way the team responded to skiles and the way the team literally fell apart, it's made the necessity for a move more readily apparaent. additionally though, he can't make a move out of desperation. this season has only served to let him know, this offseason, moreso than any is the time to inject something new to the team. my opinion about what it should be changes from rumor to rumor, but in no way do i believe paxson should be on the hot seat just because things haven't gone as planned to the letter; i suppose mark cuban, joe dumars and any of the other owners use the lack of a finals appearance as the barometer as to whether to raise the temperature on their employees "hot seat".
for my money, IF the heavens were to open and the team makes it to the ECF, all bets are off, because the radical nature of such a turnaround would be unprecedented, and spark a plethora of new debate about the talent, mentally and physically of this team. i tend to believe pax himself would be in quite the conundrum.
it'd make for one helluva offseason though.
