I really never heard of Green ever being close to the 5th best prospect in the draft, but I guess we'll never really know since obviously amateur mocks are different from NBA GM/scout mocks.

My point is that yes, there is always a scenario where a pick would be available for a very good player. That's why I listed so many examples! It always happens! There will be a very good player available for a lottery pick+Haslem+Wright/Smush. I can guarantee you that right now.

I don't really see how someone could think differently, especially with all the stories we've heard this year about disgruntled players, whether because they're tired of losing/don't fit (Gasol, maybe Randolph), because they're nervous about getting the right money in a new contract (Deng, Gordon, Iguodala, Okafor, etc.)... The list goes on, man.

With so many owners trying to cut costs, why not take a flyer on someone who you think can really fit your team in exchange for someone who's going to be wanting more money than you're willing to spend on them (Gordon, maybe Ellis and Deng), or who you don't plan on extending a near max contract to anyway (maybe Smith? I have no idea, that's not the point though). Think about it.

I get what you're saying but i'm trying to tell you that it's not even close to being as certain as you think it is. You said "It always happens" in bold as if that means anything in the present. You can never know if the opportunity will present itself or not. Anyway, let's just hope that we have a high enough pick that he doesn't have to trade it and we can get Rose or DeAndre Jordan. We can agree to disagree with the other part of this discussion. ;o

To the other guy saying noone said Jeff Green would be any better than Diaw, LMFAO. Where were you reading your articles? Insidehoops? Green was hyped up to be a versatile guy who could play multiple positions and have a bigger impact on his NBA team than he did in Georgetown because of the system they ran there ... that is EXACTLY what most scouts said. Stop thinking about this in hindsight ffs, it doesn't matter how average he looks now. I'm done arguing what his draft status was because the hundreds of people on IGN and the major media outlets I heard from all confirmed the facts that I heard about him before the draft and I dont care what has happened since then.

Yea,,,I dont get the Green arugment. It's not so much the player, its the pick and the player the team trading for it wants...

And as far as Green, most mocks had him going from 6th-1oth, and that doesnt even matter, its about what team is there and what their needs are.

I don't know, there's pretty substantial evidence that at least one of the many "disgruntled" players we hear about in the media everyday will be available for a lottery pick for one reason or another. But yeah, we can just agree to disagree until draft day.

I've always agreed that if the Heat see someone that can really become a franchise talent in the draft then they should take him.

Trading down to pick up some more talent along with a lower pick is also always a possibility.

If the team gets a lottery pick Riley can do whatever he wants with it. If they make the playoffs Minny can do whatever they want with it.

Oh no, the trade has to be for Miami's own pick. So the Wolves would only getting a pick if the Heat miss the playoffs.

The same thing can be said about the Heat's second-rounder going to Minny (via Boston from the Antoine Walker trade). Even though Miami's got two this year, with the other being from Orlando, the Wolves can only (unfortunately) get Miami's pick which, if the team keeps playing poorly, will be virtually a late-first rounder on a 2nd rounder's contract. It really sucks.

Basically, there are options to write in "*a* future 2nd rounder" into a trade instead of "Miami's future 2nd rounder." If the Heat could've pulled off something like this at the time of the Walker "trade," I think they could instead give Minnesota Orlando's 2008 #48-52 pick instead of their own 2008 #31-34 pick.
